What kind of tires do you have? The reason that the M-sport cars with the 18" wheels get the speed limit raised is that they have an auxiliary oil cooler installed and have higher speed rated tires. You also need to ensure you have your tires set to the correct pressures if you are going to go to these types of speeds.
I am not going to go in to how apocalyptically stupid it is to try and go much over 120 in the US. I think Darwin will explain that to you soon enough... |

I'm running Pilot SuperSports, not too worried about my tires

I imagine "needing" to would be nearly never, but wanting to, say on a closed course, would be fairly often.

I take my motorcycle to the tracks here in California and I can hit those kinds of speeds but it's tough for a car to hit those even on the back straights or the front straights..

I have found it fairly easy to get up to 155, but I've never tracked my car, just spent some time driving on closed roads with police making sure no one skirted the road blocks.

When I was working on a spot shooting at Willow Springs, the cars were routinely hitting 140 on the straights. They could've gone faster, one driver told me, but the cameras couldn't keep up.
