Hey all,

I expect these threads will start appearing more often but here goes. I just ordered my new iPhone 6 and am looking to unload my very gently used iPhone 5. It is the 64GB model in white on Verizon. I believe these phones are unlocked from the factory and can be used on any carrier (including AT&T and T-Mobile). Please verify on your own if you intend to use on another network though.

The phone itself is in great condition. I have had it in an Element Case since new and the case will come with the phone. The screen has a couple very small scratches but they are nearly invisible. I can provide photos for interested parties. It will be completely wiped and ready to activate when you receive it.

I will need to wait until next Friday to ship it out (that is when the new phone arrives).

I guess no one is looking for these with the 6 coming out. Gazelle will give me $180 for it. How about $250 shipped?

You'll probably get more on trade-ins since companies are offering bonuses. I would look around and use the credit to get an iPhone 6/6+.

I think it is too late for that. I already pre-ordered the phone and paid. These phones seem to be going for $350-$400 on ebay so I think this is a pretty good deal.

I'm interested. Any pics and do you still have the box, plug, cable & ear buds?

BTW, unlocked or not, a Verizon CDMA phone will NOT work on the GSM network. The only other CMDA providers in the US are US Cellular and Sprint which are planning to merge; the survivor will probably be Sprint. So, the only options for an unlocked CDMA phone in the US are Verizon and Sprint.

I can get you some pics tonight when I get home. It will come in the original box with all accessories that came with it.

As for the GSM functionality, I am afraid you are only partially correct: http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/972158

Quote:
The CDMA version of model A1429 works on Sprint's and Verizon's LTE networks in the US, along with the KDDI network in Japan on bands 1, 3, 5, 13, and 25. The CDMA version also supports GSM bands, making the CDMA iPhone 5 compatible with GSM networks. However, the CDMA A1429 will not support LTE on GSM networks in the US.

CDMA model A1429: CDMA EV-DO Rev. A and Rev. B (800, 1900, 2100 MHz); UMTS/HSPA+/DC-HSDPA (850, 900, 1900, 2100 MHz); GSM/EDGE (850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz); LTE (Bands 1, 3, 5, 13, 25)
While it will not work on GSM LTE networks it will still connect to regular GSM networks.

I think these phones are unlocked aka the SIM/GSM portion, which could be a nice selling point for buyers. I believe it was required by the FCC. You can test it out to confirm with a friend's SIM.

Yes, fully Verizon LTE capable (that is what I use right now). I will PM the MEID (would rather not broadcast that).

Per my post above, it is capable of operating on the GSM network but it will not be able to access their LTE service. It is only able to access LTE on CDMA networks (Verizon and Sprint).

Yes, it was. I bought it and am very happy w/the purchase.

For some reason, Verizon had problems getting it registered and just when they told me that it was probably an iOS8 problem that I had to fix myself by updating thru iTunes (or go to the Apple Store to get it fixed), the LTE signal emerged, which was a relief. Phone is working fine now.

Reported iOS8 problems w/the iPhone 5 are increased battery drain, slow WiFi and inconsistent/nonexistent Bluetooth auto pairing. Am updating to iOS 8.0.2 which was just released. Hope it doesn't turn out to be a mistake.

Haven't noticed unusual battery usage yet but I always turn off location/WiFi/bluetooth functions unless I'm using them and disable all notifications and shadow/auto-refresh functions so that the phone isn't using it's cpu in background but the battery does run down quickly w/any cpu intensive apps/activities.

Also haven't noticed particularly slow WiFi at home. Just did a speed test w/iOS8 before updating to iOS 8.0.2 and this is what I got:

WiFi:

Ping 113ms
Download 6.36 mps
Upload 3.5 mps

LTE:

Ping 49ms
Download 2.62 mps
Upload 0.16mps

WiFi looks good but LTE pretty much sucks, especially on uploads. Data lets me know to use WiFi whenever possible for up/downloads.

Haven't tried to pair the iPhone5 w/my BMW yet but I could never get consistent pairing w/my iPhone4 w/iOS6 and just gave up trying to use Bluetooth in my E90 335i. Will check it out w/the iPhone5 but if it doesn't pair properly, I'll know it's a phone problem and just forget about it. I don't use the phone much to talk on anyway, especially not when driving. So, it really doesn't matter to me.

Only problem I seem to be having is that iTunes doesn't recognize the iPhone5 as a new device. Not sure why. May stop by the Apple Store to discuss it was one of their "Geniuses". But whatever problems there are seems to be software and not hardware related. Whoever said that Apple (unlike Window) products are problem free?
