Hi guys,

Recently everytime I drive the car, when I turn the steering wheel, it squeeks at me.

It is driving me mad, and I was hoping that there was a quick fix that someone might know about which would save me heading to the dealer.

Holy crap dude that would drive me frickin insane.

Do you know specifically where its coming from? Is it the wheel itself or the column?

have you done your zip up maybe its catching your stick lol

madman - Not sure mate.

I have the sports steering wheel and when I put that on I thought it would solve the issue, but made no difference.

Have to crank up the radio to drown out the noise, but it can get alot louder then that.

Oh also sometimes it wont happen, I can drive along fine, then go full lock and bang it comes back!

Looks like a dealer job mate, especially if its intermittent and changing the wheel hasn't helped. Good thing you have the video though, just in case it doesn't squeak when you take it in which is sods law when you take it to the stealers.

My steering has just started to make the same squeek noise, anyone know what the problem could be ?

Its also driving me mad.

Yeah mine did the odd squeek when it was cold.

Mine does this sometimes. Had a bmw independent look at it when I was overing seeing family in Ireland and he used some silicone lube stuff which solved the problem for 12 months.

I got told it's the rubber boot where the column goes through the bulkhead by the dealer , they lubed it but still squeaked, mine only does it at parking speed though

Had this on my E92.
Replacement rubber grommet, three steering racks and a suspension strip down later.... wished I'd never mentioned it.
Basically they kept changing one type of noise for another... the E90 doesn't do it though.

I'd be very tempted to keep trying with the lube.

it will be related to temperature etc, try adjusting the steering column up and down in and out, usually solves the problem might go away when weather warms up !

I had this very problem a few months back after the dealer took out my dash to replace the evaporator.

I must have taken the car in to the dealer around 5 seperate times and apart from the last occasion all they did was remove the column and grease up the shaft sleeve which is the boot at the base of the rack. On the second attendance they did replace the rubber shaft sleeve but the problem returned within a day and no matter how much greasing up they couldn't sort it. They then blamed the steering wheel being too close to the rack causing the squeek between the rubber wheel and the plastic casing so extended the distance between the two but still didn't resolve the matter.

They then tried to fob me off saying that the squeek only happened when the wheel was positioned fully in (closest the dash) and fully up and when moved slightly the squeek disappeared. That was actually true but that was my best driving position and I refused to have a car that squeeked when it hadn't beforehand.

They ended up getting a regional tech out who ordered a special lube from Germany which the dealer never gave me the name for but said it was new and very expensive and something the dealer said they had never used before. They said the old lube just wasn't sufficient as after a few minutes of use or dependant on the temperature the old lube just dried out and started the squeek but this one was different. Since this was used the squeek has gone completely.

All warrantied and despite the numerous attendances at the dealer its now resolved.

I sorted that noise completely early this year, by selling that car!
