I personally spent $50 bucks. Sold my used run-flats (lots of guy need them for lease returns) and bought V12s for $550 shipped + $150 mount and balance. Total came out to $50 bucks out of my pocket

For winter have run-flat setup, probably not as harsh on 17s

Bringing this thread back to life...my 06 325i still has it's original RFTs (current mileage is +45,000) on the OEM 16 " wheels...tires a pretty shot so a few questions:

1) can I put non-RFT tires on these OEM wheels? (Stupid question I'm sure but I really don't know)
2) I'd like to move into 17's but last time I did that (see attached pics) the car didn't feel as peppy versus the 16's. Will non-RFT 17's on non-OEM 17's keep me "OEM" as far as acceleration and whatnot?

Also what's a good all-around/all weather tire you guys recommend? I'm in Norcal where rain is the only thing we need to worry about regarding the road...

Going to a bigger wheel usually means more weight = slower. There should be no problems switching those wheels to non-RFT. I put Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S on my 06 325i and have been very happy.

No dealership will do it for me, or they say there are no "NON RFT" tires available for my configuration. Working on an aftermarket alternative.

1. Many folks have mounted non RFTs on OEM BMW wheels with no problems.
2. As BMW takes the position that the car is designed for RFTs, I doubt you will find a dealer who will sell and/or mount them.
3. For an excellent A/S non RFT, I'd recommend the Conti DWS, which is also an excellent value. Check Tire rack or local tire shops, not a BMW dealer.
4. For the '06 325i, a 225/45R17 tire will be similar in overall diameter to the stock 205/55R16 and should therefor perform about the same. But I don't see where the cost of the 17" wheels would be worth the switch.

Sorry, I'm new and will probably be asking a lot of stupid questions.

we have an 07 335i and i was wondering 1) if I can replace the runflats with non runflats without any modification? 2) If so, can these be done at any tire shop or do you have to have some sort of mythical Luftwaffer machine made from unobtanium and only available at BMW dealers? and 3) Which flat repair kit should i get to avoid interference with the TPMS?

Since we have only had the car a few months, I will be asking a lot more of these type questions. Thanks in advance for your patience.

Thanks for the info...for me I don't like the 156's but I think going to the 18 162 which I had on before affected the acceleration, so these 161 17" wheel fit the look I want and should probably keep me close to the stock performance I had with the 16's?

I am looking for a compact spare that will fit a 2007 328i w/Sport package, I have factory 17" wheels and the tires are staggered. I found a post that mentioned a compact spare from Tischer but it will not fit mine - do to the wheel size. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This is true. The BMW DEALER will not take the car back or will charge you to replace the cars tires back to OEM - or a RFT. They were going to do this to me.

you can do this. it will ride like a hot knife through butter, but your handling will be affected. Your turn in won't be as sharp and your front end tire will roll over on hard cornering. The stiff sidewall on the RFT is designed with the soft bushings. SOme like this, others don't. I didn't. I then had to change the front end to increase camber to get the steering response I lost.

Read the posts and search. This is not just a no brainer.
