To 'Stang or Not to 'Stang

So last Friday I went to my local Ford dealer to get some new rear drums for my F-150. Sitting at the door to the showroom is a 2012 Mustang GT in Lava Metallic Red (looks black) with the ideal (for me) set up of a manual trans, two-tone leather, HID's and Brembo brake package.

I'm having my midlife crisis now, it's hard to resist. Could be a cool car for a toy...

Thoughts?

I should also mention that my '82-year old Dad had a 1964 1/2 Mustang fastback when I was 6 years old. It was the coolest car ever, so I'm Fords target audience.

One of the US magazines (I believe Motor Trend) said the Boss Mustang had a better ride quality than the standard GT because of the adjustable suspension.

Better start calling around to obscure dealers in your area or be willing to go to the Mid West dealers in smaller towns. Find someone with allocation that has not ordered the car is you want your special color. The Red ones are the most frequently ordered. Dealers just pick what they think works. So red may not be the most popular at the end of the run, it is the most available.

The Boss is easily pulling $6-$10k over sticker right now. The Laguna Seca is actually selling ( not sitting) +$13-$20k over in So Cal.

A 5.0 with Brembo stripped is $30.5 including your choice of 3:55 or 3:73
A Boss stripped is $40.5k sticker
A LS Boss is $47.5k sticker

Yeah, I was thinking of waiting but I'd rather by a GT and tune it. I know the Boss motor is more robust w/ different heads, but I could probably live without the extra HP and track capibility. No plans on tracking it. The track key is kinda neat though.

Thanks for all the replies.

Boss' are in showrooms. Some knuckle heads are asking 25k over and some show flat sticker price. For the premium I would lean Boss but a GT and a few things here and there and you have a bang for the buck winner.

You only live once. Do what makes you happy.

A performance white Boss would do just fine for me and I have only owned one Ford/truck in my longish life. Badge envy is for the weak and insecure.

Unless you might want one with a rag top I can't think of one single reason not to get it. Ford builds very good cars with very modern technology.

We're seriously considering the new Fiesta for our oldest grandsons 16th birthday.

That's honestly perfect. The hatchback is where it's at.

your dad's fastback was a 65, not a 64 1/2 only the first coupes with the 260 V8 were 64.5's

get the Mustang... can't beat it for the price.

The Boss will always be a Boss, a 'tuned' GT is just another Mustang.

I love the new Mustang. To put all doubts aside, just test drive it. It will convince you that this Mustang is the right muscle car as all the reviews have good things to say about it.

No, his dad is currently 82 but when his dad owned the '65 Mustang he was 6 and his dad was probably 40~45 years younger.

As for the 2012 Mustang I would pass.

The ONLY two fords that I would consider buying is new Mustang and Raptor. Cheap (BMW-vise) tuning options for both.

I had a 2011 gt, it was a very nice car and I enjoyed it the time that I had it. But I missed the n54's instant torque and the handling. The mustang is quick and handles really well it just doesn't have the same feel as my past BMW's. It always felt like I was driving a boat. Needless to say I had it for a total of 6 months 4 of which it was stored and I just got rid of it for a new z4.
