Help me fix my rough idle when warm problem!
2006 325XI Auto 80k miles
After about 10-15 minutes of driving, when I get to a stop light the rmps will drop, “blip” up and jerks the car a little. The rpms will drop to 400-500 then go up to 800. Sometimes it will do it over and over 3 or 4 times in a row. A few months ago the SES light came on and it said it was the #1 bank camshaft position sensor. So I replaced both. I thought that was the problem but then it has continued and is getting worse. There is no SES light on now so I can’t use the scanner to tell me what’s wrong ??? What parts should I replace and in what order? Thank you! |

I had the same problem until I fixed the leaking Valve Cover Gasket.. is yours busted? When coming to a stop at a light, after 5 seconds it would go down to 400 and the car would shimmy and could feel my body shake. I think the problem is related to lack of pressure... good luck

Also the problem isn't fixed but I have an update. I took the car to the reputable garage. They first ran it for codes and nothing came up (already knew this would happen because I also ran the car for codes). Then they did the software upgrade and that didn’t fix the problem. They spent a week trying to find other solutions including putting in a test alternator which didn’t fix the problem. They said they were going to try replacing the spark plugs and then the VANOS sensors to see if that would help. I didn’t want to pay them to do that so I got the car back and plan on doing it my self. This is a very frustrating problem because it looks like I’m going to have to just replace parts until the problem goes away. Anyone else able to fix this recently? |

I would take it in to BMW if you have not already. Without the car throwing a code or anything obvious it could be anything - let them find the fault/leak/short/etc...

i have the same problem. changed my solenoid and camshaft sensor but the problem still came back. i dropped it off at the bmw service center today and the guy said the whole VANOS unit might need to be replaced.

Please keep us updated and best of luck with your car. I'm still having the problem and now it's doing it without the A/C on.

turns out a piece of the oil filter was missing so i replaced that and no more noise but i still feel a shake in the car here and there.
last night my car started smoking from the hood so i looked and it looks like theres an oil leak near the solenoids/sensor area. I scheduled an appointment with my mechanic for next week but he says it might be a leaky oil cover gasket. |
