Little_Croco, blackpig & jtcl: thank you guys for your input.
As jtcl said, will keep on modding the car until we see what happens.. Trust for every problem there is a solution, painful one, maybe, but it exists.. lol |

BMW performance intake in my E93 323i
i have the BMW performance intake installed in late Sept this year. Here are my comments!
1. The gear shift changes definitely more smoothly on my E93 323i as many of you may agree that the gear shift changes quite abruptly during low speed especially from M3 to M2 while the car runs uphill. 2. There are actually two versions of the BMW performance intake. One is designed for the USA BMW with a rectangular shape high flow filter. I got mine from the HK BMW dealer and the dealer said i am the first customer who have bought this product. The Euro or HK BMW performance intake system consists of a cylindrical high flow filter ( which is actually the K&N filter), the front carbon filter house with the silvery ' BMW performance' on it (looks cool) and the rear air filter house cover. The only structural difference from the factory air intake system is that there is an additional air-inlet from the back of the house cover which draw additional air into the system. This of course gives rise to additional power and torque by drawing additional air supply into the engine. HOWEVER, the gain in power and torque is not sufficient enough for you to actually feel it. Honestly i cannot feel the power gain. If you can feel it, it is a matter of psychology. 3. The BMW website claims that there will be a 3HP gain from the performance intake. Whether that worths $8500? 4. I have also installed the Hamman dual exhaust (costs me $10000) which not only gives my car a sexy racing note but also additional 5-8HP gain which this time you can actually feel it especially when the car runs uphill. However there is a down side. The drop in back pressure renders the car to accelarate slower. In conclusion, if you have plenty of money and want to improve performance of your E9X 323i, definitely 1st go for the Hamman or BMW performance exhaust, 2nd the performance intake and 3rd software uptune for your 323i ECU. I have not yet tuned my ECU because 1st i have not found a reliable company to do so, 2nd my car is still under warranty. If anyone has ECU tuned up of the 323i, please let me know and share your experience. |

Weathiness is one thing and 'value for money' is another issue. I think most of the Hong Kong BMW owners will agree that the 28hp power output difference between a 323i and 325i does not worth an extra $100000 HKD for a E93. Moreover 323i and 325i actually share the same engine with the same OEM part number. That is why there are plenty of E93 323i and only a small fraction of E93 325i in HK. Spending extra $ to modify and personalize one's car is more a matter of joy and persuit of perfection rather than for practical reason right? Do you really think you can utilize a total of 306hp from a 335i most of the time in Hong Kong? The answer is obvious, isnt it? |

yes yes, I concur. It is a matter or preference after all. But all I am saying is, whether or not, the performance tweak that puts out 2-3 more hp is practical for an extra 15000 HKD. Perhaps some may be of the view that it is, but if I had a 323, I rather spend it on the exterior or interior rather than performance.
I agree with the 325 comparison and the hp does not justify the spending, but likewise, is it worth spending a fraction less of the money, for a fraction less of the power gain? |

Hey. I have the BMW performance exhaust and intake.
I personally think there is a difference but the difference can only be slightly felt. If I were to choose again I wouldn't pick the performance exhaust, a little to quiet for my taste. I feel my intake causes my car to response SLIGHTLY faster...... but ONLY slightly. So in conclusion... I might try something else. |

Alex, the joy of spending a Saturday morning, with your engine hood up, messing with your compartment, taking off parts of your beloved OEM and customizing it is the fun behind our mods in HKG... 3-4-10 or 100 bhp is meaningless when every 1.2 Km you need to slow down from what ever speed you are at to 70/80 (most of the roads in HK) to by pass an optic speedo camera and than hit your gas pedal to enjoy that few minutes (??) acceleration before having to slow down again for the next camera...
Sarcastic but true isn't.. Yup, it is the fact of having changed every exterior you can afford (For now) that you start dreaming of messing with your performance mods |

Bimmer/E93. It all depends on the person. I used to mod my exterior first on my A4, but on my e92 I am doing performance mods first. I think I can feel and enjoy the minimal performance mods than getting out of the car and only seeing the visual enjoyment when walking to and from my car.
Or maybe I haven't found a kit I like :P |
