Dude you're fine, just pay it.

In one week I got hit with 4 parking tickets. ABSOLUTE BS, but what can you do. Pay it and look twice before you make that turn.

BTW, I didn't know they'd give you a ticket for turning right? Was it a busy street like yonge or bloor?

Tell me you're joking.

It's $18.

Pay it, they'll be happy. Avoid going to court.

I read it right the first time.

I understand what you're asking and what your situation is. The reason you're being summond to court is cause you didn't pay the ticket last year. I'm not up on the traffic laws in Ontario, but I'm pretty sure you're not going to get any points on your license or fee tacked onto your insurance for this type of offence (if you do, that's weak). You may get a pissed off judge who'll charge you with wasting the courts time though... hence my previous comment. Avoid going to court.

I'm pretty confused with this.

So. Are you saying that you COULD have paid the pocket change fine but decided not to and are going to court to argue the case?

If so, you must be insane.

If not, can you explain a little better please?

We should have a sub-forum for all these asinine parking ticket threads. In any event, if it really is only $18.75, then its a no-brainer. You pay it. But if you made a right on a red, I think, but don't quote me on this, you may risk losing points and you should fight it solely because of this. Check the HTA or call the Court House to see if you are in jeopardy of losing points.

It's a moving violation, so I'm pretty sure there are going to be points involved. And the $18.75 has to be a typo. Moving violation fines are usually more than that...

If it is a By-Law, then just pay the fine.

By-laws are usually things like making sure your sidewalk is shoveled 24 hours after a snowfall. Or cutting your grass if it is too long.

Why don't you do yourself a favor and call Points, or even the PoPo as ask if you get points.

You made the turn, pay the ticket. The cop cut you some slack and only charged you under the bylaw instead of the HTA... so you get $18 and no points instead of $110 and 2 pts. This is one of the rare instances when I would have sincerely thanked the cop for the ticket and been on my merry way. Run, don't walk, and pay the ticket.

+1, since it is NOT under the HTA = no points. Cop did you a huge favor

i'm pretty sure that demerit points are also enforced for municipality bylaws. i tried searching the city of toronto website.. but it's too confusing. here is link to a hta traffic specialist website.. and they have 2 demerit points listed under municipal bylaws:

http://www.rhisafety.com/points.html

i'm sure if u contact a traffic specialist or lawyer they will tell u what u need to know. asking for legal advice off a car forum.. is well... just plain stupid.

No points for by-law violation because it is City of Toronto jurisdiction. Municipal court handles that. It is on the same level as parking tickets.

Points are only applicable to HTA convictions which is Povincial jurisdiction. The point system belongs to Ontario Ministry of Transportation, not City of Toronto.
