XD600/6 question

Edit: Guys, new question. Since the stock hifi speakers are only 2ohm and could possibly blow due to the added power, can i upgrade my speakers to logic 7 speakers and benefit from the added power? I have some extra logic 7 speakers and i could probably pick some more up used.

Basically i would want to run the xd600/6 and replace the HiFi front tweeters and mids with Logic 7s. I would keep the OEM HiFi underseat subs and the rear speakers.

I feel then that the speaker system will be pretty good, but wanted some opinions before i dump some money into it. I did some searching and people say its a nice combo but i only found a thread or two about it.

--
Hey guys, just installed a JL audio xd600/6 in my car. I have the stock HiFi (10 speaker) system. I used Technics harness and the install was effortless! I just have a quick question. What are the optimal settings for the xd600/6 with the stock speakers?

any input is appreciated !!

Its 10 speakers or 8 for Hi Fi

The stock door speakers can't take any gain at all .
The gain on the under seats between 1/3 and 1/2 .
Don't know what the crossovers should be but around 200
would be an estimate.
Look for Technic example systems he has a few that use the
stock speakers.

Thanks for the quick response ctuna. Forgive me for my noobness, but where is the gain setting on the amp? is it the input sensitivity?

I'm starting to get a hang of the audio scene.

Edit: i just searched and found my answer lol. So front speakers, no gain. Underseat woofers 1/2-1/3. And around 200hz for the crossovers?

Rear or rear door speaker no gain also.

Rear or rear door speaker no gain also.
Technic can give you optimal settings for the stock configuration.
This is mine but I have Morels in the front door and Jehnerts in the Floors.

I'll put the freq at about 180hz and run no gain for a little while and see how that goes.

Is the gain set to 0 if its all the way to the left?

I was thinking of doing this upgrade, can you tell me how you find the results? Is it worthwhile? I find the stock hifi system in my e92 pretty decent buy if you can tell me that this provides a great improvement I will do it

It will sound alot cleaner since you would have more than enough power to blow the speakers without clipping, but a good set of speakers would make the upgrade much more worthwhile.

The sound is much cleaner and much more punchy. I like the upgrade but I usually don't blast the music because I'm afraid of blowing the speakers. I think it's a good upgrade if you want some better sounding speakers. Upgrading your speakers would make it even better

Plan on upgrading the fronts and underseats at least

Plan on upgrading the fronts and under seats at least.
Better to find aftermarket speakers that will take the power
to make this system really rock. ( and to have peace of mind that
you won't blow the stock speakers)
And aftermarket component set will have a real crossover and
handle the power properly.

Logic 7 speakers can handle a decent of power. I had them powered by my xd600/6 for a while. You still have more than enough power to blow them, but I had no problems even at high volumes.

My opinion is to get the Jehnert 3 way setup though if your planning on doing an upgrade. Then replace your rear speakers with those logic 7 speakers you have.

For those who use this amp, do you run the center channel still or do away with it? I am thinking of going this route at first and then eventually upgrading speakers. Where do you find Jehnert speakers?

MusicaNW or Unexpected Creations for Jehnerts

MusicaNW or Unexpected Creations for Jehnerts are the two known distributors
in the US .
If you want to keep a logic 7 surround sound setup then you need
a mobridge da-2 preamp or the ms-8 route with the radio recoded to Hi Fi are the two common options.

I wanted to eventually upgrade the underseats but i figured since they're not too bad, i'd keep them for now. I agree aftermarket speakers would make a killer system but I've been looking at prices and I'm already spending some money on cosmetic mods..so i figured the logic 7 speakers would do a better job than the HiFi.

I looked up the Jehnert 3 way components but I couldn't find a price. Technic said that the individual audio component speakers powered by an aftermarket amp would sound amazing so logic 7 shouldn't be too bad. How did they sound with the xd600/6? Also which speakers did you replace?

I didn't do it and i'm not sure if people do. The xd600/6 doesn't have any surround sound abilities (as an MS8 would) so I don't think it would be extremely advantageous to put one in..but like i said, i'm new to the whole audio scene, so you're better off asking a pro.

Edit: If im picking up some used L7s are all the mids and tweeters interchangeable? So for example i would get 4 mids (2 front and 2 rear) and 4 tweeters (2 front and 2 rear)? Basically there's no front and rear..or is there lol?

I used to have my center setup and I had 1 channel unused. But I recently disconnected my center and I bridged my front speakers with the leftover channels. That sounds much better to me than having the center channel and half as much power to the front speakers.

I'm not sure on the price, but I dont think it is much more than the underseat subs alone cost.

The logic 7 speakers powered by the xd600/6 actually sounded pretty good. It is clean even at high volumes, and I wouldn't worry about blowing the speakers.

I replaced them with Jehnert underseat subs, Morel Hybrid Ovation II's in the front doors and Morel Integra Ovation for the center. I also have an xd 600/6, an MS8, and a trunk sub.

Why is the MS8 needed?

I did not get CDT tweeters from the link above. I did buy the technic harness and xd600/6 ($335@Amazon). I should of done this sooner. I am a timid diyer, however the harness and technic's link above made it very easy. I had to refer to the link on several occasions during the install, so have your smart device handy.

The only things I ran into was figuring out how to remove the intereior panel pop rivets and finding something to strip the 4 gauge power cable. To remove the pop rivet, you need to pull the center head out, then the rivet slides out of the hole.

I do regret not buying the DLS R4 front speakers when they were available per Technic recommendation. The front speakers is my next project.
