regret on getting iDrive/Nav before March 2007

Did anyone regret on getting iDrive/Nav before March 2007 since the ones from March 2007 production onwards get the 6 programmable keys, RTTI, as well as the ipod/usb adaptor available.

Not really MFG offers more features on late models.

Can't really answer your question as posed, since my car was built in March '07 and my previous E90 (May '05 build) didn't have iDrive, and we don't have it in the Sept '06 built E91. But I was pretty jazzed that the timing worked out for me and I do love the programmable keys. I also like it that they removed the haptic feedback from the controller wheel, and made the system faster.

iDrive still can use many improvements - but I think it is still much better than most other system from other manufacturers.

Wow! you are lucky yours was built right on time. If it was built like in Feb 07', you wouldn't have the six programmable keys.

True, but I knew the change was coming and I arranged for the first production week in March. You can't leave such things to chance!

Pre March 2007 builds do have RTTI, and it works quite well! Regarding not having the 6 buttons, I took the time to memorize the voice commands.

Time well spent!

Nope. While I may not have the 6 buttons or the USB function you stated, I dont have a welded diff, which is more important to me.

Still, it would be really cool to have those functions.

There are 6 programmable buttons specifically for idrive. You can program them as shortcuts. For example, you can make one button automatically navigate you home, etc.

I dont have them and would order idrive over again even if I couldnt get the buttons. BTW, my 2007 E92 (Oct 2006 production) has RTTI.

I upgraded my 09/06 production e92 for a 11/07 e92 primarily because I got a great deal with ED. The early production 3's are awesome cars regardless of the 6 extra buttons. RTTI was available from the beginning of MY07 production. The ipod/USB adapter is nice, but there is an after-market version available. The only significant difference that I see is the search function on the Nav, which you can get by upgrading to a newer version of Progman. Just enjoy the car you have and don't think of what you might have had, theres always something newer and better.

Real Time Traffic Information. The navigation tells you have accidents and slow traffic ahead of you. Fairly useless, actually.

Please explain. I did ED also, but don't plan on "upgrading" my car every year because its such a great deal...

I was able to get a good deal on the trade-in value because of the high demand for the e92 after all the MY07's had been sold and before the MY08's came in. IL provides a sales tax credit for the trade in value, and I had a 2nd car to drive while I waited, so it made sense for me to trade in early and order another for ED. I don't think there will be the same opportunity next year.

I'm fascinated by the number of people who pay for the optional BMW Nav package. In the UK this is about £1650 - about $3,000 - when for similar money you can get an all singing all dancing Garmin for about £350-£400. OK it isn't housed in its own binnacle but you can transfer it from car to car and car to bike and vice versa. And by all accounts it isn't that good.

Sounds cool, but unfortunately we don't have that here in Canada.

I'm pretty peeved. The amount of time it takes to switch from CD to sat or FM is utterly ridiculous. There should be a button for it. I shouldnt have to go through menus or do it by voice. Give me a break.

And I sat in a newer one, and it has to be at least 123231 times faster. Granted, i'm coming from acura, so technologically its all been downhill.

In other news, I think RTTI came out before March 2007, my car is pre-march and I have it. I actually like it though. Living in a top 10 worst US traffic area it comes in pretty hand.

I think you should order the car with idrive I would not recommended the Garmin because it's very easy for people to break in your car and steal the unit, just saw a car got rip off over the weekend since he forgot to remove the Garmin.

My wife has an '06 530, and I just picked up an '08 335, so I have experienced both iDrive systems, and there are not that many differences with the old and new versions. The programmable buttons are useful, but after I put in my home address, and my favourite radio station, I dont really have much need for the others. That being said, they are a useful addition, just no big deal if you dont have it. Haven't really needed RTTI yet, I hope it will be a useful addition.

Couldn't agree more with 'Lrscpa' post, if you learn the key audible commands that you use the most, it is much easier to get around - although for some reason, being English, the damn system doesn't always recognise my accent. So I have to put on an American 'twang' to get to the right place

Also on 'Welshman' comments, I used to live in the UK, and I agree in the UK, Nav is overpriced. In the US it is about 2K USD, so I think it's an easier decision to have it factory fitted.

I picked up my car on Feb 26. So yeah it kind of urked me that this came out just a few days later. I would have used the USB function a lot. But overall I love iDrive so no regrets.

I have a pre-Mar 2007. The only thing I regret is not having the HD radio optional available.

As for the buttons, I actually prefer not to have the 6 programmable buttons. I like the cleaner look without it.
