Want to get a buffer... what else to get?
I am looking at getting a 6" dual action buffer for two reasons; to make applying sealant/wax easier, and to have the ability to do some light polishing to remove minor swirl marks and what not. I'm thinking of getting the Harbor Freight one to start, and upgrading to in the future.
My question is, what else should I get? I see there are finishing pads, cutting pads, polishing pads, fine, medium, and coarse foam pads, and so on. I have no idea what to get!?! Also, I do not know what kind of compounds/liquids to get either. I use BFWD sealant regularly. The only thing close to a polish that I've used is something made by Mothers, but I ran out. What size pads should I get for a 6" buffer? I see there are 5.5", 6.5", 7", etc.

You would be better to have a look at the autogeek forum. You best bet would be a griots garage DA and for polish meguiars m205 or ultimate polish. For wax collinite is about the best for durability and looks.

I love my Porter Cable polisher
http://www.amazon.com/PORTER-CABLE-7.../dp/B002654I46 I will second the Collinite wax. BY FAR, the most durable wax I have found and super easy to apply/remove. |

I have the harbor freight dual action polisher and love it! On sale for $55, plus a 20% off coupon; so for less than $50 bucks, you can't go wrong!!
http://www.harborfreight.com/6-in-57...her-69924.html I bought these pads. I read reviews not to buy the harbor freight pads. Cheap and fall apart quickly. I've used the polisher a a dozen times or so and after washing these pads with the solution included, they still look good as new! http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o05_s00 Bought this backing pad. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o07_s00 As far as polish, wax and sealants, go to autogeek and detailedimage and read forums and reviews. It's all personal preference. |
