Good video and the BMW seems by far the better value but imagine 450bhp in that RS3!

You beat me to it AP

I watched it last night, and it's a great vid,and a fantastic overall review of both cars.

The BMW is a cracking buy,and as Monkey boy said, keep the options to a minimum and it's a car that 's hard to beat in pretty much every category.

I can't say the BMW is a particularly good looking car,but being sat inside giving it the beans, aesthetics are not that important to the driver, only to the other drivers as you hoon the feck past!

CH's vids and reviews are always good, something that Top Gear never really gets right, and Monkey's cock is smaller than JC's (allegedly)

Haha Agreed on the JC comment, and on bland appearance of the 1. After all beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I have been banging on for years to my friend who had the s3 now and tts about the chronic annoyingness of ingolstadt's offerings. But alas... he is a convert.... and there is nowt i can do.

To be fair he has an excellent point about the 4 wheel drive benefits in dodgy conditions, but my friends car is a garage queen, they do not come out in winter because of " the salt"., and so his point is redundant and besides a car with a decent set of winter tires can still travel up and down the country. Its not like we get it that bad here.

Personally I would take the M135i, simply because it sounds stunning from inside way better than the audi.

Very well said. TG has lost its track and they come up with silly ideas to compare cars.

The exterior styling of the 1 has grown on me and the interior is way better than the Audi (excluding the X3 steering wheel). I even think it looks good in white in this video and I HATE white (I'm trying to convince myself because it's the only free colour)

I thought Harris had suffered a head injury recently after his video raving about the GT86, then went and bought a Ferrari. He has redeemed himself with this video.

Mowflow!!! why the hate on the gt86? ok yes i get it, its not exactly super cheap and has skinny tires... but.... the chassis is a peach... and with some aftermarket parts, FI, it will be a James and the giant peach!!!..

But agreed standard car is lacking.

Glad someone else posted this up, rather than me banging on about it for a change

Good review though - never realised the RS3 understeered that much.

They put wider tyres on the front as std to try and stop some of the understeer but don't think many owners drive that hard (never noticed any understeer on mine) and I've had a few spirited drives also RS3 is a 10 year old chassis with continental tyres which aren't great for the track not taking anything away from BMW thou they do have a fantastic little pocket rocket which should be a great drivers car for under £30K think there've set the bench mark for the next round of hot hatches

What a great video. That BMW sounds incredible on WOT - cant believe how quick that box grabs another gear. Tim, you must be over the moon having seen that.

Isn't the case most hot Audis suffer with massive understeer?

Some of the RS Audis look great but seem more about image than performance. Every compatible BMW seems to be a better drivers car.

The M135i shouldn't be compared to, let alone better the RS3.

Great video and comparison.

I don't like the M135i in white. Blue looks the best so far but I've a feeling a strong red would work well too.

I was excited about it when I saw in the mags. Then I saw it in real life and it just looked like crap with lots of cheap parts. The feeling of disappointment was only compounded by hearing the price.

Although the Audi beat it 0-100, in the real world you would be looking at mid range figures. The BMW actually BEATS the Audi at 30-70:

BMW
5.6 - 1.83 = 3.77

Audi
5.52 - 1.63 = 3.89
