As the DMFW ages they become imbalanced.

A fresh DMFW can probably handle over 500HP for quite sometime, exactly how much or how long I'm not sure.

If it's worth it to you to keep the DMFW, I'd try a new DMFW.

As far as someone upgrading them further, I'm sure it's possible but I honestly don't know any company in development.

Thank for you reply, I was toled that you could use a 650i clutch and DMFW and that this would hold 600 HP, so I will be investigating if this is possible, to get a manuel 650i and if it would fit the car.

Once again thanks for your comments, they are appreciated.

Best

75% of people over clutch their setup. Spec underrates their clutches big time. A stage 2 and 2+ will hold anything people have here. The stage 2 and 3 also use the same pressure plate. You will also break more drive line parts with a non-forgiving clutch that has ZERO slip. I've installed over 25 Spec clutches, and all of them performed flawlessly. Two of my own Spec stage 2 installed cars made between 625-655lb-ft of torque. Both never slipped, and took drag strip abuse on slicks and drag radials.

Install and attention to detail goes a long way. Break-in for 10-12 hours make for smoother operation also. Can't really go by the 500 mile rule, because one could drive 500 miles in top gear most of the time.

Can a spec stage 2/2+ disc be used with a 550 clutch?

I agree, Spec does under-rate their clutch and the break in for 500 miles means mixed driving and different heat cycles, not just 500 miles on the highway.

+1 on SPEC underrating..

SPEC 2+ is great for most and if you have upgraded Turbos, 3+ is probably the way to go.

Ive always been used to heavy low engagement point clutches as I can shift quickly by flooring the clutch and releasing, but the high engagement point is growing on me, I can shift just as fast, with minimal effort.

Is this normal for spec clutches? Just curious, as there is so much excess pedal travel now and basically nullifies clutch stop, as I don't the engagement point is no where near the floor.

My Spec 3+ was installed less than a week ago, and the engagement point is pretty high -- halfway? hard to quantify from feel alone. I really hope it drops lower as the clutch is broken in. Shifting into first from a stop has been the real adjustment with the high engagement point. I feel like a learner, and occasionally get the jerkies and the overrevs to go along with it. And I've been driving a stick exclusively for 25 years....

Its been about 25k on my spec 3+, engagement doesnt lower. Learning curve is quick, enjoy the quicker shifts!

With raised idle to 850rpm, chatter is still very minimal. Zero regrets and absolutely worth it.

It will chatter on some occasions, but loudest would be 4/10.

The chatter isn't bad at all. I only hear it in my garage bouncing off the wall, sounding a bit like a truck at idle. Idle is at 700 RPM. NO RAGRETS. Particularly because the torque I'm running utterly destroyed the supposedly sturdier-than-the-norm stock 335is clutch. I probably could have gotten away with the 2+ (as Jeff will be the first to attest, lol), but at least I know that no matter what, it's not going to go b/c of too much power/torque.

If that's where the engagement point stays, so be it. I'm getting used to it. The initial few shifts into first from a stop were hilarious.
