I hear less oil is better than more oil...apparently the added oil increases oil pressure which can cause issues...but I'm just riffing here

I've experienced really long delays getting a good reading. Last time I changed mine, I put 6 1/2 quarts in, so I knew it should be good. After warming it up, it only read half full. I resisted adding more because I knew 6 1/2 should be enough. I checked it everyday and after 3 days of it reading half, I was getting ready to top it up, but didn't. On day 4 I checked it and it reads full and still does 3K miles later.

The excess oil end up in your exhaust and results in catalytic converter failure.

Overfilling is bad. A few bars low is fine.

And yes, you'll get a warning if the level drops to the "low oil" mark.

my oil has been changed by the dealer twice under the so-called "free maintenance" program within the 4 year/50,000 miles warranty period.....and 15 times by me(every 5,000 miles)....with 7 quarts of Mobil 1 0W40 or Castrol 0W30 and OEM filter and my oil level indicator has never moved!

It's always 3/4 full!

If you overfill the crankcase with oil, it may allow the moving parts (crankshaft) to foam the oil up (when the oil is whipped and mixed with air) and create air bubbles. Air bubbles in the oil may lead to inadequate lubrication of the engine because of the reduced amount of oil getting to friction parts. This all leads to potential damaged engine parts if the overfill is for a long enough period or use.

It solves rpm fluctuating upon cold start-up. Also, for most BMW problems start off by scanning your car with the Peake Research Tool. It contains the actual BMW codes.
