Oil level question and filter Interval

So what is the required fill amounts for the various intermediate bar levels between MAX and MIN. Is the MIN level = to one quart low?

Also do most change the oil filter in between the dealer 12-15k mile changes? Assume you can do anytime engine is cool and with your hand...or is a special tool needed?

Thanks.

Anywhere between MAX and MIN is fine - after an oil change it should show MAX (6.5-6.9 quarts) You will get a notification if the car wants oil, but if you're showing MIN, adding a quarter of quart wouldn't hurt. The only downside to this is you're not really sure how much oil you're burning - I'd wait until it asks for one quart. I change the filter every time - there are people who don't - because my filter always looks dirty. You should change the oil when it's hot because it flows better and will have particles suspended in it. 17mm socket for the drain plug, a 1 Euro coin for the flap, and man-strength for the filter cap is all you need.

Note: A plastic fork will be useful to get the o-rings off the filter cap.

Should be noted the level sensors are a common failing part. Your sensor could also be just malfunctioning. Read the codes. It will throw shadow.

So between MAX and MIN is only a quarter of a quart? Car runs great and believe sensor is working just fine. Just over 7k miles since last change and I'm only one bar segment below MAX. I'm new to the 15k mile BMW intervals and was thinking about just changing filter now. Only few bucks from what I've read. And with engine cool I assume as I want as much of the oil to drain back before I remove it.

Appreciated.

Yea, Most of us do changes outside the dealer/ in between the intervals. It can't hurt to have fresh oil so why not. It can only help and prolong everything.
