Which pipe? If you're talking about the main pipe just before it goes into the muffler it's just a hair above 2.5. Since it's Euro it is not the standard 2.5" that we use here in the states but that's what it's closest to. What are you needing the measurment for?

What do you mean by inspection?
The E90 muffler does not do anything in terms of pollution. It only reduces sound. If you took off your catalytic converter then you will have problems.

Easier said, your car will pass emissions fine.

Unless the state you live in does a sound check there shouldn't be an issue. I used to have Vettes (C2, C3, C4, C5 and C6 Z06) and they sell a kit that deletes the mufflers. Essentially it's exactly what he did, straight pipes with nice tips. A friend of mine has them on his '03 Z06 and it sounds very good. The sound at cruising is more than acceptable, plus he is saving weight.
I'd like to do an adjustable exhaust like my C6 Z06. That way when I'm alone I can have it loud and when my wife's in the car I can close the by-pass and have it go through the muffler.

It really isn't loud enough to justify an adjustable exhaust, unless you chop off your resonator haha.

2.5" Magnaflows are perfect IMO. Aggressive above 4000rpm. No drone at highway cruising.

for those of you who are getting reduced gas mileage, you probably didnt reset you car's adaptations to the previous setup with a muffler.

try this:

1. disconnect battery
2. leave overnight disconnected
3. wake up in the morning and re-connect the battery
4. turn on car
5. start driving right after you turn it on
6. after the eingine is warm (~5 min driving), then start to rev it higher and drive the crap out of the engine for a few minutes (~5min)
7. then, do whatever you want. you can keep driving if you want to, or go home

this process resets your car's computer's adaptations to the previous setup and allows it to adapt to the new setup.

im not sure what effects disconnecting the battery has on a car with i-drive, so if your car has i-drive do it at your own risk!

but on cars without i-drive, once you re-connect the battery, you have to reset the date and time in the car.

Dude what's wrong with you. If you have anything constructive to say, or experiences or problems to share, let us know. Don't be a dick head coming in and leave this BS, not to mention you just admitted that you did not even read this thread. What a dumb a$$ you are.

BTW great start making yourself a jerkoff newbie.

Awww, did I hurt your feelings? I posted my opinion. If you can't handle it, log off. To me it does sound ricey, I don't like the raspyness it adds. I think of a BMW as a more refined machine, and it doesn't sound refined enough without a muffler. It sounds like some kid down the street who has a Civic and takes off his muffler because it makes it sound "performance".

Haha are you kidding me, first of all I did not do this mod boy, but I do respect people's ideas of modding. For this mod, there are plenty of positive feedback and the sound is nowhere near like a Civic. BMW techs even gave props for people who did it. You did not know??? OH YEAH I forgot because you did not read a thing in this thread, and so you missed out what kinda feedbacks are there and the sound clips that BUNCH of people posted.

Yeah you did express your opinion, but let's look at what you said.

If you end at "Sounds ricey to me", I sure got no problem. But then which part of the thread makes you think the topic is "dumb."

Don't be there thinking you are all that, thinking you know all there is about "performance." It's people like you who brag about how high class they are, but not knowing how childish they are. Enough said....

It can't be my opinion that simply yanking a muffler off is dumb? Ok, gotcha. At this point, you could have ignored what I said if you didn't like it, and moved on, but instead you chose to to make a big deal out of it, and you call me childish? Haha, whatever makes ya feel better my friend. I'm just a "dick head", "dumb a$$", and a "jerkoff noob" after all right? Sorry I'm not as mature as you.

Haha dude, if you think I am making a big deal out of it then you obviously don't know what's respect. Fine, I see you are keeping track of this thread anywayz, so I will cut you loose. At least others who are reading this thread will judge what kinda person you are. That's it from me. Have a good life champ.

Oh! I really hope they like me! It makes me sad when people from the internet don't like me!

You gotta lighten up my friend. Don't let things that don't even matter like internet message boards get under your skin. Maybe I didn't say that the nicest way I could, maybe I was having a bad day, you don't know. It's not the first time I've said something that someone won't like, and it probably won't be the last, and I'm willing to bet you've said something that someone didn't like at least once or twice yourself. Just chill out and have a good time, call me a dumbass if you want when I say something dumb, I don't mind. We're all on the same team though.
