Except you can buy a VW crafter, which is the same van, for a couple of grand less.
Best van on the Market is a transporter.

They make a Vito with a 200+bhp six pot diesel motor - gets to 60 in just over 8 seconds (even the pokiest Transporter takes 12 seconds). Cool!

The T5.1 transporter is a massive step forward from what was already a great van, euro 5, very frugal and a range topping 180bhp twin turbo (ignore the figures they are very conservative)- I run a few of them now. The 4 motion is a corker!

Oli - I've tried a "new" T5 and just cannot get on with that engine - a 2.0 four pot in a van just doesn't feel right - I preferred the 5 pot 2.5 174 unit.
Otherwise I agree - best vans (mid size) by miles. Not a Vito fan - just impressed by that loony one. |

We re-mapped one of the Vito Van-x, which took it to approx 250BHP, however it is only available as auto, and the torque convertor and traction just saps the fun out of it. On the move though, it is a very comfortable/capable van.

Trouble is that people (especially down here in Cornwall) are bazzing up T5s and ruining them. They are almost getting more "boy racer" than some Novas and Scoobies!
Plus a lot chip them but don't worry about the brakes/shocks - a 200++bhp van with bags of torque is a recipe for disaster on the twisties. However they are fun in 174 (and 180) form and I prefer the facelifted look now I've got used to it - in fact there's one in my driveway now. The electrician has one! |

Carlos - the Merc van mentioned starts off with over 200bhp (it's a turbo'd 3.0 litre six pot).
The 180 is for the VW van. |

Its 204BHP in standard form. It is a restricted 3.0V6 TDI in the van, heavily detuned at the factory.

Carlos - you are still mixing up your vans!
VW Transporter - 2.0 4 pot bi-turbo - 180PS Merc Vito 120 Sport-x - 3.0 6 pot turbo - 204bhp (or about 210PS) No one has chipped a 180PS VW van to 250bhp - that I know of! It's a mere 46bhp increase for the Merc van to get to 250bhp from 204bhp. |

Celtic tuning chip the VW 180BHP, and quote about 250BHP, but they are a right dodgy outfit, and there is no way I would use one of their maps.
