Thank you for all the help. Time to move on

This forum has been a wonderful help in learning about and solving problems with my 2009 335i E93

However with the birth of our first child - it's time to get a sensible family vehicle as a replacement. The days of wind-in-the-hair adventures are on hold for a while...

So I traded in my trusty E93 on a F10 550i.

Hey, I never said it had to be boring, just sensible

An M5 is a little too hardcore for my needs right now, but the 550 is a prefect blend of sensible, comfortable and faaaaaast lol.

Thanks everyone! Keep up the good fight for E9X everywhere.

Looks to be the facelift version so it may have the TU (technically update). OP, was this CPO? I bet you love the amount of torque it has to offer.

Definitely not a CPO...look at the CarMax sticker on the top left of trunk lid.

However, if he purchased a CarMax "Bumper to Bumper" warranty, that's probably even better than a CPO warranty through BMW.

Check out Doug DeMuro's CarMax warranty videos on YouTube.

Maxcare warranties are top notch as I have it on the CTS and a recently purchased Civic as my DD. However, best to not take the car back to Carmax for any warranty related work. Off topic but they use cheap generic parts to save costs so take it to a dealer/indy shop.

Didn’t see that Carmax decal until you pointed it out but yeah, I peeled those out on my cars at the Carmax locations.

Nice car I love them but that hood Gap triggers my OCD. I've waffled on upgrading so many times.

Yeah, as spotted - I got it from CarMax - specifically for the awesome bumper-to-bumper warrantee. I had it on my 335i E93. Paid $2,000 for the warrantee on that car, and I have a stack of nearly $7,000 in BMW invoices that were paid out from 2015-to-yesterday. So you can be sure I bought the same warrantee on the 550i for $2,400! I always use the MaxCare warrantee at my local BMW dealer (who are great).

(I bought my E93 from CarMax with the warrantee after watching Doug Demuro's Range Rover videos. I was convinced the roof would fail and be massively expensive - so I got the MaxCare. Funny thing is - the roof was one of the few areas that never needed repair lol)

Job 1 for the morning is getting the CarMax sticker off it!

It's a 2014, with 34K miles on it. Super clean. It has the updated more reliable version of the engine - with the extra horsepower and torque over the original F10 550. 50 more horsepower and I think 50 more ft-lb torque.

You know you've started to get old when you look at the MSport version, and the Luxury line version... and thinking of your back - you go with the Luxury line and 20-way comfort seats lol.

It handles pretty nice, but not as stiff and harsh as the E93 was on super-sports.

To me it feels like a rocket-powered La-Z-Boy. Endless torque.

It also has plenty of toys, like the radar cruise, and collision mitigation, pedestrian awareness etc... it was very nicely spec'd from the factory. It's missing the night-vision and fancy adjustable damper suspension - but not much else.

I'm going to miss the E93 - it was awesome! Had some spectacular road trips to remember it by!

My experience with CarMax and my Z4 was a joke. My advice to you is get the engine oil and filter changed immediately by a competent BMW trained mechanic. CarMax does not use LL01 oil and an OE filter. The oil filter I found in my Z4 was an ill-fitting aftermarket POS.

Congrats on the car.

And the kid too

Oh no.. not the N63!
Do yourself a favour and pop that middle engine cover off. Check the hoses and take a peek under the turbos carefully.
