You'll need those extra air vents for a better flow if you are using cone filters in our cars. I've experimented with MANY intakes and with vents in the airbox it is MUCH better.

Think this Afe box is worth it, then?

Who knows for 470 out the door it might be worth it. I'm sure you could see a fair gain ESP if you have a tune. Me personally I'm going to keep my stock box because if it ain't broke dont fix it. Plus for 470 I can get a new titleist 3 wood and hybrid and be a lot happier lol

After having experience with so many intakes... yeah I feel that maybe the AFE intake might turn out to be a very good one. Surging issues can be easily fixed, change the rubber seal or add a spacer and you'll be fine. However I'm sure AFE has addressed this issue in their new generation product.
Here's a photo of a few of the intakes I've had on my E90...

In your opinion which intake is the best? By the way how much is this intake?

That intake is very rare to find. I might be wrong but those go for $600+ used off the forum if you're lucky enough to find one for sale.

Correct, but to be honest... In my opinion they performed worse then stock airbox with carbon delete and drop-in filter. They sure sound good, but I wasn't really noticing the claimed gains at all. Those who know me personally know that I've been modding E90s since the beginning of its time, I've experimented with many intakes and setups.

But if we pair it with a ecu tune will we see some gain out of the intakes?

From what I understand, Jlevisw is putting up before and after dyno charts for this intake very soon. Watch for that if you're interested in it, doubt it has the gains they claim.

This does look very interesting but $500 is a little steep. I'm still sitting with an entirely stock intake and filter. Any suggestions on a good drop in?

I am running the K&N with carbon delete. I have used K&N in many cars and have been happy.

How do the measurements stack up against AFE's intakes (old and new) compared to that of the stock intake. I wonder what the flow rate it also between the three.

I am considering this or a Euro spec airbox. But the Euro airbox is proving difficult to find.

Correct me if I am wrong, this looks like the eurobox with two vents added.

Maybe someone can mod his eurobox and find out?

I can get this kit for $350 shipped. I know a vendor on ebay that can give you this price. Let me know if you're interested. I can also get the Simota V2 intake for $400 (new).

Probably he is talking about the the AFE Magnum FORCE Stage 2 and not the Stage 2 Si. Stage 2 is just the open type intake which retail at ~ $350.

The one OP refering to is Stage 2 Si.

Looked like the extra two vents draw air from the engine compartment, would it not cause heat soak?

The 2 vents when installed would actually be right behind the head light housing area. im not sure how much of an issue heat soak would be from there
