Hi all:

I need your help. Considering 2013 335i coupe w vs. w/o x-drive. The 335i comes w sports seats whereas the x-drive model doesn't (no M-spt pkg avail). At face value I wanted x-drive thinking u'll get better traction but some folks indicate the ride quality is lousy at high speeds and to opt for no x-drive. I'm concerned that the ride quality/suspension isn't as good w x-drive. Please advise if u've owned both and which is better.

X-drive does not have sport suspension even if equipped with the sport package. X-drive models do receive all other sport package/m-sport package goodies if so equipped (seats, steering wheel, headliner, etc).

I would go with the non-x-drive unless you really need AWD. RWD models handle better, weigh less, and get better fuel economy.

you live in Toronto, I would go with AWD

I live in Toronto and with good snow tires you do not need the x-drive. I had no problems last winter. The biggest limiting factor with the E90 is ground clearance, but otherwise I find the car to be a peach in the snow.

Thx gang!!! I'd appreciate some more feedback... just found out that there are no more RWD 335i coupes avail in Canada w my colour preference (mineral/alpine white), so I'd have to go with the x-drive. I'm used to the sport suspension and handling of the 335i (w/o x-drive) and am really concerned if I opt for the x-drive model that I'll be disappointed. I like to drive occasionally at 160 KMH and want the confidence at that speed that I'm going to stay on the road, whether it be summer or winter. I've used snow tires on my current RWD and have had no problem, except in a snow storm once in a blue moon. Am I crazy going w AWD w/o a sports suspension? I don't want to spend any more money modifying the suspension from stock.

Sounds like you're set on RWD as you're already comfortable with it, you have no issues with it, and you're happy with the performance.

Why not wait for the 435i that's about to come out in a couple of weeks and order yourself a RWD car in the color you want then?

I hear ya... problem is cost (can't afford a 2014) and the new design is butt ugly IMO.

Then go with the RWD in your 2nd color combo option. Hope you have a 2nd color combo option.

Avoid the X-drive and get snow tires. Done. Oh and keep searching. It's not like you need the car now right?

I dunno why xdrive gets such a bad rap on here. I've had two and have been very impressed in both snow and rain. No need for snow tires, no need to completely shovel out the car to move it, etc.

I had an E30, E34 and an E38. Great cars, but without snow tires you could barely move them without being shoveled down to bare pavement.

Actually, I need to double-check but I don't think there are any 335i coupes(RWD) left in Canada in any colour combo.

Just spoke w a trusted tire dealer, and he indicates his customers have had no complaints w the x-drive even in a sport 335i coupe, and he actually prefers the x-drive set-up for Toronto. Perhaps everyone's being a bit too critical of the x-drive non-sport suspension?

RWD...test drive both especially since you're dropping some pretty good $$ but expect the ride quality to be < the non x-drive. I live in the Pacific Northwest and my e90 335 M-sport without X-Drive of course, is perfect.
