Im getting nervous

Im worried I will be disappointed with the Koni Yellows that are arriving this week. Im replacing my BMW Perf dampers with these and re-using the BMW Perf springs. My concern is the ride will be jarring with little or no increase in performance

Hopefully that wont be the case. Thinking Ill start at 1 turn from soft on the rears. With only a 500lb rear spring I dont know if more damping is needed.

Folks with H&R Sports usually do about 1.5 turns in the rear but those springs are heftier from what I recall. Their rates used to be listed in the sticky but now I cant find it.

Any suggestions?

That's the spring/shock combo I'm interested in! I've only seen one review of that combo on this forum; the member (forgot his user name) said he was very happy. Have you asked Harold for a setting recommendation? Maybe 1/3-1/2 from full soft? Do you have the M3 subframe bushings? They make the ride stiffer.

I dont have M3 bushings so we will see how this goes.

what's a great set of springs to go a long with yellows...I have koni yellows, but haven't bought springs yet. don't want the ''bumpy'' jarring ride, but want performance. I autocross, but don't ''track'' often.

Not trying to hijack, but I think everybody will gain info. on a great setup with koni yellows.

Are swift sport springs out yet? If not you to do a whole coilover conversion right?

Fraggy, whatever happened to you getting coils? I just went through the whole process of getting Sonic Tuning Coils. I just got them installed and will be doing my review soon. And I came from H&R Sport/Koni FSD's.

I read through every thread on these before hand and from what I read from your posts, you were decided on these?

Anyway, what's the drop on the BWM Perf springs? It's not that much is it? I think you'll be fine with the ride. It will probably be even better. I have read nothing but good about the yellows...and I think I may have read every single damn post about them on here, lol..

yes, at this point, if you want coilovers with the konis, you can get the HPA conversion. But you might as well try them with your springs and see how you like them before dropping the money on the conversion kit.

I recently installed yellows on my car with regular sport springs. There is definitely a very noticeable difference. Not as dramatic as with the coilovers I tried, but it is also more comfortable. Maybe only slightly firmer than OEM in most situations, but there is a lot more roll control.

I have the compress-to-adjust rears, which are at a little more than 1.5 complete turns from soft. I still think it needs a bit more rebound control though, so I may give it another half turn. I've left the trunk liners out of the car, so removing/replacing the rear shocks takes me about 10 mins per side now (it's only 2 nuts - pretty easy).

but the actual adjustment on the shock is pretty vague. I've read you are supposed to feel "stops" when you turn, but I really can't feel anything definite. I just turned slowly a few times toward full soft and hoped that reset them, and then turned them the other way to adjust rebound (which is opposite of the fronts btw).

***EDIT - I didn't feel the stop because the shaft was turning when I first tried to adjust them.. since I've done it the correct way, and you can definitely feel the stops.*****

maybe I should have held out for the ones with the top adjuster, oh well.

Also, I'm still on RFT's, but just took delivery of a new set of rims which I'll be putting non-RFT tires on soon, so that may affect ride quality somewhat.

Is 1.5 turns from full soft the halfway point for the rears? Where did you set the front rebound? Any other suspension mods?

Out of curiosity why are you replacing the BMW performance shocks with the Koni yellows? Sounds like a downgrade to me.

Koni Yellow + HR sports here.

I did 2 full 360 turns on front/rears (level 2). I love it for daily driving, however, I wish I had done level 2 front/ level 3 rear so when I race the car I can up my fronts to match the rear. You are going to love them! They are going to be very very stiff at first and pot holes will hurt, but after a few 100 miles the brake in nicely.

I think I am at about 1.5 turns or 1.75 turns in the front. No other suspension mods, just the shocks on factory sport springs.

That sounds good. I'll start at 1.5 turns in the rear and go from there.

I wish I could learn to adjust em that fast too

Definitely not a downgrade. And will not be more jarring if set around middle.

to adjust the fronts, you can try using a pair of bent needle-nose pliers to turn the valve, or remove the strut brace bolts at the shock tower (and loosen the center bolt at the base of the windshield) to get access.

You'll notice a difference with the Koni Shocks. The BMW performance shocks are still very soft. So they are not really "sporty". Performance springs sit to high for my liking. IMO.

You will notice a bigger improvement, if you swapped out and did Koni Yellows + H&R Sports. The handling will be much better, as your ride height will be overall lower thus giving you a lower center of gravity.
