Abandoned airstrips in PA?

Has anyone ever found or gone to one to mess around on in their car? I wish I could find one in decent shape in PA, anyone know of any?

I would love to know of an abandoned airstrip within 2 hours drive of NYC, but I would settle for a large abandoned parking lot where I could set up cones for my own autocross. Somewhere I could spend a couple hours without being harassed by the cops.

Your best options to do some top speed runs are either

Race Warz (sorry couldn't resist)

or the next MPACT which is in Poconos, PA

Why not just hit up a HPDE? It's the only legal way to push the car to its limits. No abandoned property will provide this level of excitement. Some organizations are more "lax" than others, e.g. TT4C

I've done the lightning circuit at NJMP, and the road course at Englishtown. Autocross at Giant Stadium is a good time too, but I'd love to find a spot where I can just drive to on any given Sunday, pay no money, and just whip my car around a parking lot. Also, I don't love having to leave the house by 7 AM on a Sunday to make it to tech inspection and the drivers meeting.

Simple fix to waking up early, just get a hotel the night before =)

Problem is any good driving road in our area is also an attraction for families, cyclists, etc so it's really dangerous to push the car there. Not to mention cops are hiding everywhere. Only place I've really got to stretch the car's legs is 80W or I-95 and that gets boring pretty fast.

I still think DE is your best bet, especially open track or Test and Tune days. Or you can always get a bunch of your buddies and rent the track. NJMP track rentals start at like $3000 IIRC.

Right on. As soon as I win the lottery, I'm buying 50 acres in the poconos and building my own track. You all are welcome.

Forget to mention the abandoned Pocono Drag Lodge. Not sure if everyone is aware of this. I'd love to buy this property.

Yea, HPDEs are great and I don't really care about the money, but there are times when I think to myself, damn, I wish there was a place that I could go to whenever I wanted and just whip my car around. Street is wayyy to dangerous which is obviously why I wouldn't take a chance there.
