Last time I did brakes on my E46, it cost me around $400 for Hawk HPS pads and new ATE Performance One rotors for all 4 corners. 3x that for half the parts (and lower quality parts at that) is beyond highway robbery.

That's insane. I did my rear pads/sensor this past weekend and it cost me $130 CAD for the parts and 2 hours of my time. Granted, the $130 came about thanks to a local forum discount but still. $645 is cray. CRAY!

Im guessing brake fluid flush is part of the service.
No way it would take 3+ hrs to do the front. I used to have and STI and the Brembos were the easiest to change the pads. Pull the pin, pull out old pad, insert new pad, put pin back. It would take me longer to jack up the car than to change the brakes |

I tried to DIY and couldn't get the bolts holding the calipers off. Wound up taking it to Midas and gave the guy 100 to install all four rotors and brake pads

God, $190 per axle is nuts also. It's seriously 1hour labor per axle tops. I am not too mechanically inclined, but I did my brakes. 4 Zimmerman rotors, cool carbon pads, and sensors for $550.

I'd rather put OEM parts or upgrade to BBK but no way in hell I'm going to slap some aftermarket pads and rotors on my car. Brakes help you stop your car and save your life.
My parts were more than the labor I paid and I didn't feel like either negating my warranty or getting under my car this time. Fyi, I am mechanically inclined -- swapped and converted an auto to manual car and turbo'd it as well, chassis chopped and all that. So I'm not new to this. Just a bit wiser. |
