My transmission is squeaking. The dealership doesnt know whats wrong.

For the past day something has been squeaking in the engine bay area. It sounded like a belt. Well the dealership put the car up on the lift and says its the thing that directly connects to the transmission leading to the engine. Its located underneath the center console and is the first part after the transmission itself according to the rep. They have to keep the car and open some type of case so that bmw can tell them what to do. None of the techs have ever seen this issue before.

The input shaft? That is what is connected to the torque converter and the converter is connected to the flex plate which is tied to the crank.

... I sound like that anatomy jingle... "arm bone connected to the elbow..."

Or are you MT?

lol, but they didnt tell me the specific part. Just that it directly connects to the trans. Im an auto. Whatever it is makes a very loud squeaking sound when not moving but no noise when driving.

hmm, that is interesting... Wonder if the converter is making some noise when the car is stationary and when you beging to drive it quiets up. Just guessing???

I honestly dont know. Im just worried that they are gonna say my dci, catch can or interior mods are causing the issue. I hate having my car at the dealership.

The 528 loaner is crap too. Drives nice and cushy and its an 09 but the interior is horrible. The steering wheel looks like crap and my 335 interior is more high tech looking. Blah, i hate the 5s interior. I thought it would be much cooler.

Flexplate? I know the ring gear can break and cause a rattle? Is that what the dealer was talking about?

It wasnt a rattling sound. It was a squeaky, screeching type sound. Imagine a 200k mile toyota with that squeaky belt sound. Even the techs at first just sprayed some stuff on the belts thinking they were squeaking. It wasnt until they got it on the lift and used some type of stethoscope that they said it was coming from the trans area.

And of course the dealership could be full of shit too. It might just be a damn squeaky belt or something simple. Whos knows. I guess ill know more tomorrow when they call.

Does anybody know the name of the case that has to be opened before the techs can service the car? Its not a puma, but some other name.

The dealership still hasn't heard from bmw yet on how to proceed. All they can tell me is that they hear an internal squeaking sound from the transmission area and are clueless.
