Photo Enforcement - Denver

I bet the City of Denver is really pissed at the local FOX station right now.

http://www.kdvr.com/news/kdvr-invest...0,473570.story

http://www.kdvr.com/kdvr-photo-radar...,0,27039.story

Perhaps we can get those nice 30% payment rates that AZ had which helped lead them to the decision to end the freeway speed camera program.

I knew this was the law a couple years ago, so I wonder why it took them this long to actually publish a story like this. Did someone at DPD tick off a reporter?

I posted this on a few of my other boards. Based on what I was told the city of Denver gave Fox the approval to do the story which can mean only one thing, they are looking forward to ass raping the people that don't pay.

Not sure how they can when the law states it has to be served in person....change the law and then people will pay. The state should get screwed for not having changed the law. Thats their fault.

I have known that they needed to serve you in person for a while now..... A couple months ago I got a red light ticket and ignored it and kept dodging the process server.... Eventually, he got me a few days before the ticket expired lol.

With it being state law, I don't think the city can make a law that only applies to Denver to enable them the ability to boot cars or something similar. My law knowledge is limited however. I would not be surprised if the law changed in the future. Read this afternoon that some town in NM will be booting cars that have unpaid tickets.

The last one I got was for a white Xterra, his plate had an 8, mine had a 3, and obviously the computer didn't know that based on the glare. Apparently the "officer" that must "sign-off" and "validate" your ticket didn't now the difference between a sedan and an SUV of different color ... Yeah, they "review" every ticket ... uh huh ...

You want to talk about a royal pain in the rear end to get that cleared up. The PD told me to talk to the court, court told me to talk to the PD and their ultimate solution was to show up on the court date and it would be tossed out, or, I could just pay the $75 now and they'd take a credit card over the phone. Sent it to the Denver Post, and within a few hours got a call from some LT at DPD apologizing and telling me that next time I shouldn't go to the media and I should contact the police. I told him my run around and he said it wouldn't happen again. Uh huh. And the next time I eat at Chipotle I won't get diarrhea either.

I may or may not have seen a stopped, unoccupied, speed camera van and obscured the lens with a wet napkin.

What about when you already in motion where you think you can make the yellow light but dont quite make it? Or at 230 in the morning and you creep up a little too far on the sidewalk and it sets off the sensor.....

Or turning right onto a street with no speed limit sign before the photo radar enforcement?

Sorry Andre, you are grasping at straws. If the light turns yellow, that means slow down, not speed up so your arugment there doesn't hold much weight. As for the other example, yeah that sucks I guess this situation just requires a bit more attention to detail as to where you stop.

Not trying to be completly disagreeable but the laws are what they are.

I agree that laws are laws and I am not trying to make a case for breaking them, im just saying that we all find ourselves in compromising situations sometimes. By no means do I go around running red lights but sometimes when I am approaching a green light at 45 mph and then it turns yellow on me I do opt to go through the yellow if I feel that I cannot make a safe comfortable stop in time or if I am being tailgated.

You make it sound like you have NEVER accidently ran a red light? Thats all im saying.

no no, I accidentally ran a stop sign the other day and I felt like a dipshit because I was messing with the radio in the damn loaner car I have right now. I am by no means immune to messing up from time to time. I hear what you are saying, I think overall it just takes a change in OUR overall driving on the roads. I can slow down a bit, and others on the road can pay attention a bit better. It's all a balance.

The kicker is when the yellow light is set too low for the conditions. Cities have been caught doing this time and time again because it makes more revenue. The camera companies will go in and look for lights with timings set too low and suggest that those are the intersections that need the camera. State of Georgia passed a law requiring all camera intersections to have a yellow light timing of 1 sec higher than the uniform standard. After that the number of violations dropped to the point that a lot of cities were no longer making money on the program. Also, the camera companies will go find a street where the speed limit is set too low (i.e 35 MPH) but traffic is must faster (45-50 MPH like I see Colfax a lot of the time in the afternoon). The timing is set for 35 MPH but in reality the traffic isn't going that slow, so that leads to more violations. Some city in Chicago area also stopped ticketing for right-turn-on-red, and violations dropped to the point it no longer made money.

We all make decisions when driving. A camera has two choices, yes or no. Where an actual officer is involved, they may decide not to ticket you (unless it's the end of the month in CO) if you had to run the light for any other circumstance. I was forced to run a light in some snowy weather because I knew I'd not be able to safely stop in time. I doubt a cop would have wrote me a ticket for that. The camera would have.

IMHO, the cameras are nothing more than a tax aimed at drivers, nevermind the fact the city is handing a law enforcement task over to a private for-profit company. And frankly, someone who isn't paying attention, barreling toward a red-light, won't see the "Photo Enforced" sign and suddenly change their behavior.

I'd love it if CO had a group like AZ's Camera Fraud that could lobby the state to put a ban on it. I'd donate a lot of my time to that effort.

Is it true that photo tickets, if not paid, negatively affect your credit score?
