Sap removal tips?

Anyone have any good tips on removing sap? While my garage was being cleaned out, I parked on my driveway under a pine tree and now I have sap all over my car. TIA!

Isopropyl Alcohol. Put it on a microfiber and rub the sap areas. After you have removed it all, put a nice coat of wax on.

+1

Just be careful about the alcohol, dilute the alcohol first before using it at its full concentration, alcohol can etch into your paint. Spray on a microfiber towel and wipe it off.

Detail Spray and clay the car works.

If your car has a good layer of wax on it before all this happened, you can easily wipe it off with just detail spray as well. So its important to wax your car.

I would clay after the IPA. I had some on my windshield once and I clayed first and it was not the best idea. While it will remove most of the sap, it actually smeared it around. Pick up some 50-70% IPA and use it straight since its already diluted. It won't harm a thing. I use it on paint all of the time after polishing.

Yeah but at 50-70% it can be a bit strong so its just a safer move to spray it on a towel instead of directly onto the paint and wipe. I always dilute the alcohol, I use 70% as well, and depending on the paint, just safer to dilute it and move on from there.

It does smear when you clay it if its a big clump, but if you continue to work on it, it'd go away just another alternative to remove sap. That's also because the sap is still fresh or something too. But, if I have sap on my windshield, I'd just take some detail spray and a razor blade and scrape it off. lol

You use oil-based polish? I only use alcohol wipe down only if I use oil-based polish like Menzerna... Its such a pain... In general, I use Detail Addict's G-Series Polishes I only have to wipe it down once at the end of everything.

I use the Wolfgang twins on my car. They are water-based but I wipe everything down before applying an LSP. It makes it last a lot longer.

It does help makes it last longer, but it also depends on how smooth the paint is, is the car garaged or under covered when in use, etc.

Mine is a daily, parked outside, I just keep away from trees... Like the title of the thread should tell everyone to avoid parking under trees. haha But, I honestly don't have much of an issue with my wax not lasting.

I also wash my car once a month or if I don't have time I wash it every other month, and I always clay my car every time I wash it, so its super smooth like a baby's butt. But, I've done 3 months without washing my car, wax still stays on. =)

A good rule of thumbs is try out both our ways, and keep track to which method works best for you. Honestly, there's no set way to detail a car, just have to learn how to tailor it to your driving habits.

30% IPA mix, spray on towel and wipe off, don't spray onto paint. and like otruba said, claybar after. you might even get away with just claybar alone.
