Purchasing a high mileage 328xi
I am planning on purchasing a 2007 328xi coupe with 90,000 miles. It is a 6 speed. How reliable are these cars approaching these miles? What should I look out for? Ticking noises of any kind, do they suffer from carbon buildup?
Also, what would be a good price to get this car for as long as it checks out clean? Only has premium package. |

There is a member on here who has 200,000 miles on his 328i and he says it's still running well. If its a six speed, I needn't worry, as I here most problems to be had with these cars, are with the GM automatic transmission. Just keep up with the maintenance, and there should be no problems!

my 06 325xi has 149k ive had it since 90k. since then i have had to change transfer case actuator motor and the water pump. both if which are fairly common. besides that regular maintenance is key. oil changes on time did spark plugs at 100k and so on. i paid 10k cash for mine w 90k. its a 6speed mt no navigation or folding mirrors and has headlight washers. my car runs exactly the same as when i got it. as a mechanic i know that proper maintenance is more important than mileage. id take a car w 100k that oil was changed every 5k over a car w 60k that pushed the limits going 15-20k that bmw allows with ll-01 oils.

no warning symptoms. one day youll have the abs, brake, and dsc lights light up and will have a corresponding trouble code. you may hear some clicking at start up from center of car. i forget the exact code. i made a diy for changing it. you can prob most easily find it through searching for posts i started by viewing my profile here on a desktop computer.

stay on top of things and you wont get bitten. the 328 is way better repair wise. AWD may have some extra issues.
Right when you buy the car take it to a dealer for service. Just get an oil change and ask what the car needs. Than goto an Indy shop or DIY as much as you can. I like the dealer cuz they will tell you every last thing the car needs.....sh!t half will prolly make up stuff just to get more labor out of you...... |

Regular maintenance and you're good to go. The valve cover gasket usually blows around the 90,000 mile mark though unless the previous owner already fixed it you'll save yourself $350-500. But that's the only major issue. I'm at 87k and still kicking knock on wood..
This is the guy who hit 200,000 miles..read how he did it. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=788317 |
