n54 eating oil like crazy

in the past 4 months my n54 335is has eaten 5 quarts of oil. I dont see any leaking under the car, but there is a little white smoke,(probably from my dp's). I have only driven 3k miles in the past 4 months. I do however drive my car Very hard all the time, and i'm always in manual mode. What could be the problem because I don't think this is normal.

First question: how do you know you're down 5 quarts? If it is the electronic oil sensor, the next time it says you are down, you might want to do an oil change and measure how much comes out. It is very likely the sensor is correct, but they have failed on other cars.

You need to go to a mechanic for a diagnosis of leak vs. burning. The first and easiest step is to validate that you have no leaks. This will require a thorough inspection of the engine and surrounding areas. A leak is more likely and easier to fix, so you are hoping it is a leak.

Next look for cross contamination of oil into the cooling system.

If all the above are negative, you are burning oil, and the focus will shift to find out where. You may have a turbo oil seal gone bad, a valve guide gone bad, or an oil ring going bad. These will all require a separate look to evaluate them. Burning 1 qt every 1K miles is usually the limit people will put up with and want to get it fixed.

what oil are you using?

a good quality 5w40 oil like Motul, Liqui moly, or shell rotella t6 will slow oil burning considerably.

try to avoid aggressive driving until the oil temperature gauges shows that you are above the first tick.
