i hardwired my X50 at nearly halfway running the wires to the bottom of the windshield. thought that might be better because of the rear detection it has also. mounted it 'middle' enough so it could reach out between the rear ceiling and the rear seats. that's just my thought.

Fantastic! The Beltronics STI is the best on the market for detection range and accuracy (I don't care too much for the new GPS stuff but the Escorts are still pretty good).... Proof: http://www.radartest.com/article.asp?articleid=100542

Did my hardwire yesterday with my 8500 x50. Although, while keeping the remote unit low, I mounted the detector high. Thanks for the great directions.

i don't know the specific but i placed mine halfway, high enough for the front detector and low enough for the rear detector so it won't get blocked by the roof.

If you are going on a hilly/curvy road, the chances of you detecting a cop up ahead are higher then having the radar detector low on your windshield.

this is the reason why I mount it low, I think is you mount it too high is hard to get laser alerts http://www.radarbusters.com/mountdet...rlyarticle.cfm http://www.radarbusters.com/2004lase...ionarticle.cfm

I couldn't get the cover off the overhead lights/sun roof control either. Ended up taking my car to a local BMW shop called The Werk Shop. They wired my Escort 9500i directly into the wiring in the lights/sunroof harness. Left me a 9" pigtail so I mount the detector just under the mirror. Like the pix earlier in this post where it's above the mirror mount...may give that a shot as long as the GPS will still grab.

Works OK now... I had some issues as the telephone connector I was using had thin cables and the "add-a-circuit" plugs didn't cut through the insulation.
The light works fine now, I hadn't realized I switched the lights off while I was working - d'oh. All is good now, hopefully it will work OK. |

I have a beltronics vector 995 and it didn't come with any extra wiring just the regular wire that goes from the cig lighter to the detector. What extra wires will I need to hardwire it?
