Don't get too downhearted.

I think your level of technical expertise is just a bit over our head.

Personally I only ever considered DMS. I wouldn't have the guts to try to flash my own ECU.

Interesting concept though.

I'm not thinking about having a go myself!!!

I just want to understand the process before deciding who to go to.

Makes sense about maintaining the voltage though - you have to wonder about anyone offering to do this outside of the workshop ....

Avoid Chippeduk and you should be fine

CA automotive would be my choice, based purely on Nicks map....if it was crap, he would have told us.

From my understanding from Simon who did my map for CAA, its not actually possible to remap a 335d throught the odb port.

You can reset the gearbox etc but to upload the new software the ecu needs to be removed and the map uploaded thought the 12 pin access port.

CAAs map has the bmw codes built in, so at the moment its not detectable unless the ecu is sent back to the krauts for a full investigation.

zat iz de end of de lesunn YAAA!!

I thought that CA looked fine too but if you look at what Nick had done on the remap (take the ECU out, freeze the fucker, and then put the new map in) its a bit different than plugging a laptop into your OBD in the company car park, uploading the new software and then fucking off.

Sorry to look like a geek but before I let someone destroy a £44K car because of a voltage drop during the upload I want to research the issue first.

In my humble opinion!!!!

Some electronics are temperature sensetive. The reason the ecu needs to be cooled down is its helps with some of the problems with the hardware.

Simon did my remap in the relativly warm afternoon, and the first two attempts the map would not upload, then he put the ecu in the freezer, 20 minutes later the map uploaded straight away.

If the temperatire isnt high the freezer may not be needed.

My car has run faultlessly for the last 6 weeks, and its mega. Ps has my H&R springs fitted today and the ride quality has gone better not worse...RESULT

Yeah - but these guys are offering to meet in a car park. Not too many freezers handy there .......

I think that you need to be at a workshop with the necessary facilities at hand to do this. If you knacker the ECU software the you are properly fucked - I can't imagine that your local stealer is going to have much symapthy!

Having said that I have been in touch with Simon at emaps and he seems like a decent guy who knows what he is doing so hence the dilema.

Anyway must get to bed - off to see the Jocks tomorrow and need to get up at 5am for the flight. Fuck fuck fuck.

The voltage is not necessarily constant - in your car, home or anywhere else.

If there is a sharp change in the middle of the software dump then this can throw up errors.
