Bad JBD Unit?
About 2 months ago I bought the Jbd, installed it the next day and had fun for 2 months. A couple of weeks ago I noticed ruff idling and at one point stalling. First thing that came to mind was the jbd so I made sure it was plugged in tight and everything was ok for a week. On Saturday I kept getting limp mode all day I finally got tired of it and pulled over and took it off. I figured maybe I need to turn it down since it was set at 75%. I finally got around to it today and no matter what setting I put it on limp mode right away!! Has anyone had the same problem?

You could have a different issue altogether not even related to the JBD. Do you have a fault reader?

This sounds like what I've seen when the JBD was not entirely clicked in to the sensor. Sometimes if your placement isn't right you can hit the clip when you replace the Engine cover. I would try to reconnect, triple-check the connections, the. Start up. If it continues and only happens when the JBD is plugged in, then take it out & call burger. I'm sure they'll replace it for you if it is, in fact, defective.

Bummer, but I would still tryBurger. Maybe at the very least they can repair it for you. Are there any loose wire connections on the harnesses or cracked solder-points on the chip (you have to look really close for these)?
To give you some idea as to what to look for, check out the pics in the first post here. These were bad solder points from theMazda factory. To give you some idea of the size, each of the three dots in the last pic (entire circle) is less than a M&M in diameter...so look very closely.

Burger should at least attempt to fix it or give you some more thought than that. I think in terms of his product, the cost of it is mainly R and D and the physical item itself is really cheap. It should not hurt his wallet at all to even send you a replacement.

I agree and would be more then willing to pay some repair cost or pay the deference for a new one but i would see why it wouldn't be good for business.

I'd check your harness-to-wire connections and wire-to-chip connections & if you don't see anything, email Burger back letting them know what you've checked and what you've found and directly ask them if they might be willing to check and repair the unit if you were to ship it to them. I sincerely doubt they would say no.

Burger should stand by his product even though you are not the initial purchaser. Be very careful testing. Fuel starvation can cause knock and even damage your engine. You say you can see why it's bad for business for him to help but the last thing he would want is a post about his JBD causing engine failure due to poor quality and craftsmanship.

If upon inspection the OP does or doesn't see any visible issues with the unit, I'm sure they will be happy to look at it for him if he asks them to (perhaps at a small fee) as long as OP covers shipping. Then, once they know what is wrong with it, they can figure out how to proceed in a fair manner. |

No worries, mate. I think it's all about how you ask. I'd shoot them something to the effect of...
"Good evening, I hope your week is going well. I am having an issue troubleshooting one of your JBD units. I've checked what I can of the wires and connections but can't seem to successfully figure out the problem. I think i may need your help. Do you think it might be possible for me to ship the unit to you for diagnosis? I'm hoping that you will be able to quickly identify what is wrong and if it is better repaired or replaced. Thank you in advance for any possible support which you might be able to provide. I have to say I really hope we can fix it as I can't imagine my d without it. Thanks for making this product for us! -Diaz" |

Terry will take care of you. Like others have said, it does sound like the harness isn't completely plugged in, but it could be another issue.

I seem to be getting the rough idle on starts when my car is really cold. I am gonna check my harness as well.
Also if I want to turn up my JBD do I have to make sure the ecu is in sleep mode like when I install it? |

think i may be having this same issue as well... just got the JBD - used from someone who sold their car -- been on for almost a week but there had been no issues until yesterday. only symptom is a rough idle -- almost hard to tell but you can feel the car shake slightly.
i havent checked for codes yet - will do tonight when i get home... i did have a real hard run on the car on the way back from work yesterday and it started after that -- previously in the week i barely used the car as i had been stuck in traffic and barely got above 20 mph for the whole week... also been raining for 3 straight days... or could it just be bad gas too? just got citgo the other day which i never have... |
