No other winter rims will fit my e90?

My dealer says that no other rims except those specifically designed for BMW will fit my e90 - is that right?

Specifically, I have a set of winter tires and rims (just plain black steel winter rims, 5-bolt) from a previous vehicle and my dealer says they won't fit, gotta buy new ones. Just want to confirm with the knowledge base that is E90post.com before I trust the dealer.

Thanks!

On the 330i you have larger brake rotors, so 16" wheels won't clear the brake calipers. That necessitates 17" wheels, and some of those are very tight. The tirerack.com recommended packages will all do fine though.

Other than that, you can buy any wheel you want with the same bolt pattern (120x5) and a reasonable offset. There are all sorts of offsets and bolt patterns, so checking an online source to make sure they'll fit is a good idea.

I bought the tirerack.com package (ASA JH3 + Dunlop WinterSport M3 DSST) for $1168 and am very happy with it. I've driven it on sheet ice already with a dusting of snow, and grip was pretty good. Had no problem starting and stopping and the DSC light didn't go on. Have yet to drive in deep snow yet, as I had to work and couldn't ski during the last big snowfall.

I don't know of any black steel wheels that will fit over the brakes on this car. Even though the dealers explaination is misleading (they don't have to be BMW OE wheels to fit) he is right in this case that the wheels you have in all likelihood will not fit.

You can view some of the wheels we carry that fit , like that ASA JH3, at

Thanks Gary,

I'll wait to hear what my dealer says about packages and prices. If I don't like what they say, I'll start shopping online.

I guarantee that you will pay close to 2x from the dealer what you will pay elsewhere. I have purchased from Tire Rack before with good results (just ordered Dunlop M3s last week), but if you prefer to not go Stateside, check out 1010tires.com or tiretrends.com, both out of Vancouver. Good luck.

Thanks Jaws! I'll wait to hear what the dealer comes back with, but I've already priced a package on tiretrends.com that fits my needs and budget.

330i 2006 sports package with premium

1st set of rims did not fit over the rear calipers.
the steels did with plenty of clearance

mine was an e90 series 4 door sedan with the big 18" rims from teh factory.

steel part number # x40856, they say bmw 5x120 17x7.5, made in switzerland, silver in colour with about 20 circular holes around the circumference of the rim.

gd

oh, my tires that on this are snow tires 225/45r17

Dasko I see that you're new here and trying to be helpful, but in future please make note of the thread date. This one is over two years old
