Should I get my oil changed at the dealer?
I'm in the CPO warranty, and I need an oil change. Someone said that only the dealers use the castrol long life synthetic, and if I go to an Indy, they only have the normal synthetic oil. Does it matter? How much should I pay for an oil change at the dealer? My last oil change at the dealer was free (warranty)

I believe the dealers will charge around $140, while the oil change kit from tischer costs about $70 (which includes the filter + accessories and 7 qts. oil).
I'm not sure about "long life synthetic" vs "normal synthetic".. I feel like these are just marketing terms. I think as long as the oil you put in the engine is fully synthetic and properly rated (5w-30 or 5w-40), it should be fine. You could even just buy the materials from the dealer itself if you're worried about what type of oil is right, should be about the same cost from other vendors for just the materials. Oil changes are an easy DIY, providing you have a way to safely lift the car (jack or ramps) a foot or so off the ground and have the tool or a way to remove the oil filter cap under the hood (that thing is on really tight). edit: google says these are the recommended oils for our cars: Castrol Syntec European Formula SAE 0W-30 Mobil 1 SAE 0W-40 Pennzoil Platinum European Formula Ultra SAE 5W-30 Valvoline SynPower SAE 5W-30 Last edited by Kalidian; 06-24-2013 at 09:46 PM.. |

If oil change is free go to the dealer, as I'm sure Indy and dealer both use similar synthetics, just the brand might be different. And if plan to keep the car for long term, change your oil at 6k or so if you use BMW oil.

i see your in sauga. go over to ivo he charges 120 with the oil.
or what i do is go over to maranello get the max bimmer discount around $60-70 full kit and go to ivo and $20 to change the oil and reset sensors. so basically under $100 every time.
