JB3 G4 Update - DIY Harness!

I've been asked by many members about what the new G4 means and how they can get it, and what modifications need to be done. I finally have some answers for you guys.

When you get the G4 upgrade you'll get the new control box, a new power wire, and some zip-ties. Basically you'll be inserting the new power wire in the DB25 connector and relocating three wire pairs to new positions. What used to be IAT, RPM, and 5v are relocated to CAN+, CAN-, and chassis ground.

Here is a schematic of what you need to do. We will also probably be offering a service where you send your harness in for the upgrade for a few bux but nothing is set or confirmed in that department.

Wow, I did a JB3 pinout myself, but this looks tough. Expect the harness modification service to really take off Mike.

The upgrade is about as easy as installing a downpipe fix in the JB3 PnP harness. Definitely 100 times easier than installing a pin out harness. *It's pretty hard to mess it up.

I could defiantly do that, but I hate messing with wires. Hopefully this will be inexpensive.

I don't understand how this install worries anyone. It looks simple to me.

I issued my earlier response because this is could be a customer support and customer confidence nightmare without better directions. Plus, you could be asking for trouble when you have customers cut and or splice wires. There is a reason why pnp sales are higher despite the price difference. I could do it without a hitch, but at least 30% of the people will have problems. And what is the penalty of doing it improperly? What happens if the splice is comes unattached because the user didn't secure the splice properly?

So does this make the harness identical to the Procede harness other than the end connector (DB25)? It sure looks like it. If it is, it would be tempting to create an adapter for the end piece to make a quick plug to switch between the two tunes without any harness changing.

Interesting that tapping power in that manner was "bad", and the method in the JB3 harness was marketed as superior for it's simplicity about 20 months ago.

Mike's own question was: Can it get any better? I guess he answered it with this thread, going with the other method is better?

Thread titled: JB3 Wiring Harness -- Perfection in Simplicity

Then you have the competitor telling BMS there was a good reason for external power and ground tap about 30 months ago:

"There's a reason that we don't use one of the small thin gauge wires in the subconnector for power and ground source. A reason that Terry will figure out for himself."

I will leave now and stay far away.

I am good with wiring, but even for a season pro like myself, I would be hesitant to do this...I would rather send it in and have it done the right way...I

How about doing a core exchange?

I was one of the first JB3 buyers (PnP) and had to upgrade my box when going to 2.0 so I still have the old old harness.

I'd prefer to purchase the new harness/upgrade/whatever I need and then send my stuff back. Once received, you guys refund my 'core charge'.

Like many others stated Mike, this DIY is a piece of cake for me. My reply was more directed towards the average Joe customer who will NOT be comfortable taking on such a task.

Heck, a ton of customers have issue installing the PnP as it is, imagine asking them to do the DIY.
