Help with Xeons and number plate bulbs when unlocking
Hey Peeps,
Recently I've purchased the new love of my life - No, not an thai bride but my amazing 335i M sport I've been a huge fan of the E90 and regretted selling me 320D M sport around 18 months ago. However I need some help with my lights... On my 320d which was a 07 when I used to open the car the car lights came on as well as the number plate lights & door puddle lights.....However on my 335i which is a 56 ( I assume this would make no difference ) only my door puddle lights illuminate..... Why wont my lights (angel eyes) and number plate bulbs illuminate when I open And lock my car??? Have I missed a setting somewhere? i've been looking through I drive and would say i'm 90% getting there, saying i've only had the car 2-3 days and never had I drive before.... PLEASE HELP ME |

On the IDrive you need to turn "welcome lights" on.

Perhaps it wasn't available right at the start of production.

Unfortunately the engine in bmw's isn't a gauge of spec, that's down to how many options to tick and money you throw at it haha..
If the lights are in auto position and it doesn't work its either your battery is dead or you don't have it coded. If it's not in the menu, I would go for the latter. |

Did some reading up on this and ppl are saying its just needs a nice long drive for a charge - not the battery... My car has near 6K worth of extra and the couldn't even code this on there flagship model!! Can anyone tell me the exact step by step location for there setting for this in Idrive please? |

Try the battery first then if it doesn't work then it's coding..
The location of welcome lights is with your daytime running lights. Without being with the car, it's tough to say for Defo. As I said it's one of the above, so eliminate.. If it says battery is low after no time at all I would buy a new one if it's draining that quickly it's unlikely to fix itself after a charge. |

The car turns off most lights when the battery is low.
If your car battery is low, it won't turn on the angel eyes, number plate etc. Going for a long long long drive may help. but sometimes you'll just need a new battery. If not, get a CTEK charger to charge her up. Especially when the low battery warning has been displayed. Had this issue with my 56 335i, charged her up but the warning would still come on a day or two later. Got a new BOSCH S5 battery (coded at Indy) and all was well again. Ie no more warning lights and the welcome lights came back on.

It may cause issues with charging. As the battery ages the cars electronics will compensate for this and charge an older battery accordingly.But....
To be honest on my last e92 I put in an AGM battery and never bothered taking it to work to get it registered and it never made any difference! Kris |

As yours is a 56 plate mate ,it is unlikely to have an AGM battery. The easiest way to tell is AGM is black and normal is white I'm sure(memory freeze!).If you're car doesn't have efficient dynamics then also will just be a normal (non agm )battery.
And yes I'm sure that battery will be fine, despite what dealers will tell you! Kris |
