Not really relevant unless you're talking about the sedans.

Yes, probably a bit naive in thinking but it seems like their German competitors are starting to do just that, allocating funds to where they were a bit lacking to vault them ahead (especially Audi).

Yes, I agree, it is supposed to be a driver's car but my point about the interior is that they sell in the luxury market and with that people generally expect a bit more from it to justify the premium and make them feel like they own something special. Not saying my e90's interior is bad, just doesn't give the same sense of premium compared to some competitors. There are plenty of non-luxury options out there that are generally accepted as driver's cars as well but people get BMWs because they want a bit of luxury with it.

Amen to that! I got mine because I like cars and wanted to see why people love driving BMWs now that I could afford one. I hate the look / tone that I get sometimes when people ask me what I drive. It's like I'm automatically a snob who thinks I'm better than everyone else.

That's kind of the point I was trying to make by saying that perhaps they might be depending too much on their reputation for great driving cars and brand appeal to sell cars. My friends were shocked to find that the alarm system wasn't standard when more economical cars even have that as standard. They may have been able to get away with that in the past but based on recent news and reviews about competing products it seems that the gap is closing quickly and hopefully they don't rest on their laurels like other big market leaders have done in other industries just to have the competition make them obsolete.
This is pretty amazing. Not as many rabbid Fanboys as expected. Refreshing to read so many varying comments.

+1 I am as surprised as you are to be honest but kudos to everyone who gave their comments as I thought it was an interesting read given some of the comments and views of the brand and in some cases car ownership in general.

I think I will be a fan for awhile, that is until I can afford a Ferrari. Just kidding!!! I will probably still have a BMW as the DD.

I bought my car brand new as a daily driver, hoping to keep it for a good few years. It's my first BMW and I really like it, wasn't really a car person before but now kinda bitten. Handles well, looks nice, lots of creature comforts. Biggest gripe is really the paintwork, scratches so easily.

Next car will probably be a Porsche as my summer/weekend/fun car.

I'm the same way I don't like to tell people I just meet or don't know very well what I drive. Its bad enough I get shit from my friends saying I'm to good for them because I drive a bmw now i don't want those looks from strangers.
I remember going out with a this girl for the first time so we meet up and the conversation turned into a talk about cars. She started to tell me how she was proud of her new altima and how she loves it. Then she asked me what I drive... I remember putting my head down and mumbling a bmw like i was ashamed lol.

No.

I have a favourable opinion of the brand, I like their style but BMW is messing up with some of their virtues and add annoyances in the process. Who asked for run-flats with no dedicated room for a spare, no dipstick, a complicated water pump expensive to repair or even a silly N20 to replace the base I6?

Nobody.

I love my car but it had its fair share of problems. At least, I got great service. I don't see another car in this class that I want more than a F3X I6, but those annoyances bug me and t I think that I would take a Cadillac ATS 3.6 before a 328i 2.0T.

I like my current bimmer a lot at the moment. But thats not to say I won't jump to Audi or Merc if their next gen A5 or C-Class coupe is better than the 4 series.

Second BMW that I've been driving since my parent's E53 and I love it. It might be your typical fanboy statement but I really do love my car and hopefully life will allow me the opportunity to pick up another BMW later down the line.

I get what you're saying about messing with their virtues as the general opinion or feel that I get reading posts or talking to people who have had many BMWs is that they are watering things down a bit too much in their pursuit to be #1. Especially when it comes to the ///M brand. It's turning into what Benz did with AMG (slapping it on everything in their lineup). I get it from a business perspective and in a sense I can't fault them for it but I personally find it would be perfectly acceptable for a company to be #2 or even #3 with a very passionate and strong fan base then a #1 with a fan base that might start eroding. Naive I know.

I just recently purchased my first BMW. I am a fan for life now, without a doubt. You really cannot beat the steering feel in a BMW. And to be honest, I really do enjoy driving my 328i with an automatic, in DS of course..
