320D LCI Remap

Hello all!

I'm guessing this is an on going debate, I was going to go with EMAPS and then I someone suggested a company called CC Tuning, has many people used them before. I'm pondering on the remap as I've still got 4 years left of the warranty, my head says no but my right foot says yeah!!

Any suggestions guys?

Before you go any further check the price as I understand it's a very expensive option on the LCI because it involves removing the ECU

Get yourself a tuning box.

These can't be tuned without direct access to the ECU.

In my experience it triples the cost of the remap to go this rought.

I'd just contact p-torque about one of their piggyback units personally.

Of course many companies can provide the map. Emaps is a franchise but Simon at Emaps (who I imagine is who you mean) is pretty good. BW chiptune and Evolve I would also recommend but they are London based so a bit of a treck for you.

Same reason i got a tuning box, the ECU had to be removed.

If you want a tuning box go with a DTUK CRD-T. Unlike most boxes it doesn't just connect to the common rail but also the turbo pressure sensor.

Thanks guys, I spoke to CC Tuning today who was very helpful, but confirmed that the ECU will have to be removed! Around the £350 mark for 400nm torque and approx 220bhp

That is ridiculously cheap for "ECU out". I'd expect closer to £600 as a starting price.

As Mega says, that is cheap for an ECU out. A DTUK CRD-T tuning box is about the same IIRC.

I had a DTUK CRD-T. box fitted ,had nothing but Grief from it, sent it back got MOST of my money back, then had to pay to have all the error codes removed by local indie, THINK TWICE before you buy one of these. This of course is only my experience of the unit , many have raved about it, me I only raged about it

The Company insisted they would put two types of maps on the same unit 318D/320D,I went through all the correct procedures on all the four map settings, maps 1&2 made SFA difference, so as instructed increased the % to + 10% nothing, then tried maps 1&2 +20% nothing, then tried maps 3&4 on default settings, LIMP MODE. Then once again tried maps 1&2 on default setting, LIMP MODE again. At this point and after numerous phone calls was advised to return unit, which I subsequently did and went with refund, less postage !!

I had a quote of £365 from e-maps for a remap on my 318D LCI, Simon explained that the ECU would have to be removed & flashed then refitted and resealed , after thinking about it overnight I decided not to go ahead with it as the car was still under warranty, I still wish I would have had the bottle to have had it done , but after my experience with my wife's 1 series with the amount of faults done under warranty I thought play safe and boring !!

The DTUK is a good tuning box. Most people have no problems with it. I have had mine for a good 7-8 months now.

You asked for my experience with the box and thats what I have done, Did I have a rogue box ? i dont know , but after the day I had with it I was glad to see the back of it. I did a lot of re searching before i purchased the unit and the majority of reports were favourable

Fair enough. Hopefully i havent jinxed mine and it will be ok now!

My first choice would have been a remap as well but a) i couldnt get one without taking ECU out and b) still under warranty.

Yeah Simon said the same with me and when asked if it was possible to reet it prior to going to BMW for work, he said it just takes too long even though i was willing to pay, which made me think, would BM actually go to lengths to reset it??? as they say they would??

CC Tuning said that they would put the remap back on if the dealers reset it, but so far he's not had many do that!

Do the remap on the missus's haha

I dont think the rollers are included at that price, but nevertheless I'm sure he can sort out a deal especially if there are a few others interested. I think he sorts out like a group rollers day...If I go with CC, then i might set one up with other fellow members who wanna play

I've had my dtuk box for about 6mths and been really pleased with it. Run all the maps on 0-20% and no problems at all and with a noticeable performance gain. For me with the car under warranty it was the only option. I had an ecu out map on my S3 before they cracked the ECUs and it was always in the back of your mind went it went in for warranty/service work. Also left it on when I sold it as it was a hassle to get it removed, that was fine as I sold it fully modded but if I'd wanted to sell it as stock it wouldnt have been so good. Not going down that route again, shame they can't decrypt these ECUs.
