Decided against the golf tee mod, I think the stock sound is about right personally...

Thanks for the welcomes - I will get some pics up soon!

I unplugged my flap in the boot! It does not show any errors on the dash but it will log an error on the ECU. I only did it to try and stop it rattling on cold start. It diddn't really stop the rattling but it did do my head in on the motorway so I plugged it back in about 5 miles later.

Maybe I am getting old. I think it sounds good at low revs anyway.

So the flap should be closed (solenoid on) at idle? Whether the engine is hot/cold?

No, its only closed at idle when its on fast idle/cold start.

When warm it closes when you drive off and only opens above certain revs / % throttle.

All AFAIK of course.

Which is why everyone says to PLUG THE PIPE and not disconnect the solenoid.
Then the solenoid is conencted and operates, hence no error codes.
It just does nothing as the vacuum line is blanked off.

I told the missus the JB4 and usb lead was just a way of plugging a laptop into the car for diagnostics, saving possible costly trips to dealers (you can read faults via JB4)

No need to mention it goes faster too, it's not lying it's just being selective with the facts

Unplugging the socket is the easiest 'quick and dry method', but I still say its easier to take the vacuum line off the solenoid in the boot rather than grovelling under the car to get the line off the actuator.

It won't get spotted by any wayward mechanic then either.

So plug it in the boot. That fine and what I am saying.

People removing the electrical connection are just mad.

That's with a Remus race exhaust. I'm not sure you'll get one of those easily in the uk.

I think I prefer the bastuck noise anyway!

Underground car park isnt the best place to get a feel for exhaust noise. I think any 335i exhaust will sound similar to that in an enclosed space.

That said, it doesn't stop me revving up every time I'm in one.

The N55 sounds better than the N54, too. The 135i that i've drive a couple of times from BMW Welt in Munich sounds absolutely glorious. I'm saying that and i own an N54 with a Milltek exhaust.
