Nope, not scary! Came away with a pack of biscuits, a cup of tea and a couple of stickers for the kids.... Not a bad swap for 470ml of high quality blood!!

Completely and utterly needle phobic and I faint everytime I have to have a needle put into me, so unfortunately, I would never do it.
I do admire people who are able to do it and give blood though. |

DO you feel faint after?
Is there a risk of injecting air into you?

Bloody hell Carl, it ain't some amateur sticking a sewing needle in your arm!
On a serious note, if it wasn't for blood donors my Dad would have died when he had a perforated ulcer over the summer. Definitely something I'm going to do.

2. They don't inject anything (unless you specifically admit to being soft and needing a local anesthetic) and only use a cannula.

I used to be quite hesitant about this but due to having a problem where I absorb too much iron I had to have a pint taken every week for well over a year! Unfortunately the blood couldn't be donated but my point is that I'm now not particularly scared of the process.
Basically, you you feel the prick as the needle goes in, which isn't great, and is quite painful but it only lasts for a second and the rest of the process is pretty much painless. After, you may feel a bit light headed, but not majorly. I coped with having it done every week so doing it every few months as a donation shouldn't be any problem at all. I'd say, defiantly do it if you have the opportunity, it can save someone's life and all it costs you is a second of pain and some of your time!

It's such an amazingly important and crucial part of the Health Service. My mum has given blood all her adult life and goodness knows how many lives she's saved over all those years. It really is easy to do and I assume they still give you tea and biccies!!?? That said I'm afraid and slightly ashamed to say I don't practice what I preach as I've never donated my blood. I'm such a huge pussy when it comes to needles and have had a massive needle phobia since I was a child. Ridiculous considering Ive had to have blood tests every 3 weeks for the last 10 yrs of my life. But each and every time I have cold sweats and anxiety attacks. I am an organ donor (no jokes please!!) though so I've tried to make up for it!! I admire and respect each and every one of you that does give blood so good on you.
