Question about the Style 162 rims...

Hello,
I currently have the stock 16" Style 156 rims. I really like the 162's rand I was wondering, how much does it cost to get them installed? Where would I get it done (i.e. dealer, private place)?

I am kind of new to all of this mod'ing stuff so any help is appreciated. I don't have the Sports Package on my 325i and I don't think I will change the suspension (how much would that cost anyway?)

The cost to do the wheels only will probably be close to 2100, including tires and with no suspension modifications. It's a staggering price to jump to those wheels, which is why you should consider keeping the 156s. They are a respectable set of wheels.

Furthermore, the 162s will look OK but not completely optimized without the lowered sport suspension. It will look slightly raised, which to me does not warrant a wheel swap. I would retrofit the suspension too, to complete the look. Sport suspension (just springs + installation) is probably another $5-600.

At that cost, just go buy a 330i...

Thanks for the advice guys. I am just thinking about it, probably won't go through with it for a while. I think there was a thread posted where some people got the 162 rims w/o changing the suspension on their 325's and it actually looked really good. The 156's are nice, but the 162's really complete the look of the car. eh, in the meantime, I'll just drool over other people 162's....

You'll see that I am selling the 162's and matching tires you desire. They are in as new condition taken off immediately after delivery.

You'll also see from the thread that a few members thought the ASKING price was high. But the same member told you on your thread you'd need to pay $2100 for them, which is my asking price.

Please remember that is an asking price and a formal (within reason)offer will certainly be considered.

I think the E90 was meant to have 18" or 19" wheels. The 16" just don't look right on the E90. Its a no brainer you must upgrade. The 162's are beautiful. I think its worth every penny.

That's what I don't get. Standard size rims (no packages) on other cars (i.e. G35, Lexus IS) is 17 inches and those cars cost significantly less than a 325i with the same options, so I don't know why we have to pay more money and still get only 16 inches as standard rims. At first, I was like I'll live with the 156's but when I look at them from far away, they look really small! Xenons should be standard IMO as well.

How much would it cost to get them the rims installed? Where should I get them mounted (dealer, body shop? Thanks.

willie p, bmwwheels is selling them for a lot cheaper than that just so you know.

unfortunately it's not that simple. northerncalguy is right - $2200 or so is a lot of money for some rims. I like those rims but at this point, I don't even know how much money I would get for the 156's, if at all. I don't know...I know I can afford it but it's just a lot of money at stake. For now, I'll just resign to the fact that my Xenons and chrome exhaust tips set me apart from most other 325's.

bavarian, if I got a 330i with the options I wanted and those rims, it would be $41k without tax and license. If I bought the rims separately on my current 325, it would have been around $39k total that I would be spending on my car, so the 330i was not really an option for my needs.

Im proud to say that I have a 325i non-sport with 162 wheels. It doesnt make a big difference compared to the sport suspension, IMO it looks awesome on 162..perfect!!!

Ahhhhh!! This is driving me nuts!! I convinced myself I was going to be happy with the 156's but now that this idea has started in my head, it's hard not to think about them...I really want them and money is not an issue, it's more of justifying spending $2100 or so. I have about 2200 miles on my 156's with runflats - I would ideally like to sell those and recoup some of the costs...how much could I expect to get for those?

of course, I would probably have to get a spare tire too and I don't even know how to change a flat. what if a blow-out occurs - what would BMW Roadside Assistance do - would they change it for me at my expense? If I upgrade, I definitely would not get runflats due to cost issues but the good thing about runflats is that if I ever get a flat tire, I could safely drive to wherever it is that I need to go.

Logically and economically, it makes sense for me not to upgrade to the 162's, but another part of me is not convinced - after all, if I wanted to settle, I wouldn't have bought a BMW...

I am sure this is driving you all nuts as well

I would love to, more than anything, upgrade to those beautiful rims but at the end of the day, I just don't have $2000+ to spend on new rims. After weighing the pros and cons, I'm just going to do what I first said I was going to do - and that is, pay off the car and then get them - who knows, I may even change my mind by that time. I don't know how all of these people are upgrading to those rims without even batting an eyelid! The cost is astronomical!
