questions...335i lovers

08 335i, 31300 miles, CPO until sometime in 2014, have to check..
Car was a leased vehicle for 3 years. Had a second personal owner for 8 months. There is maintenance performed regularly and I spoke with the rep... no HPFP issues.. yet,

My question to all of you 335i lovers, are the 335i worth the headache? I do not work too far from home, bout 20 miles total both ways. Don't take long and far trips too often, but when I do I don't want to be worried about being stranded. The car is listed at 32,433$. Looks like I got it down to 29ish. This will be a vehicle that will be owned for possibly the next 5-6 years of my life. Bad idea? purchase it cause BMW is the ultimate driving machine? Or get a cheaper vehicle, say a G37S fully loaded which is more reliable and less fun to drive. I can afford to drive the 335i, but how worth it are the headaches?

Input? thanks.

Infiniti's are great cars and definitely not POS. Sounds like you have no experience with one. The new G37 is surprisingly good. Nowhere near as "visceral" and exciting as a 335i or 335is, but not even close to POS. Solid cars. But if you are looking for the better and more connected driving experience go for the 335i/s

I'd be more concerned about it's history and the previous two owners. A car having had two owners before you even have sat in it is NOT a good thing. Mileage is sort of low, which is good, but you never know, especially with two owners. If possible I'd ask for a full service history and exactly what repairs have been done to the car, but then again, they could hide stuff from you. If you have warranty obviously it makes the situation a little better but repairs are repairs. 5-6 years is a long time for a car that is already 4-5 years old.

I'm being honest with you here now, if you can get the G37S brand new and fully loaded I'm almost positive you won't regret it. That car will last a LONG time.

I just purchased a CPO '08 335xi coupe with 50k miles and plan on keeping it for the next 5-6 years as well. These cars are great and despite some of their problems, they will last a lifetime if maintained/driven properly. I say go for it. I went from a 2010 Audi A4 to this car and I'll never look back. The styling, handling and sheer power that these cars have is truly unmatched. Best of luck with whatever you end up getting, drive it in good health.

Yep, don't get me wrong, the 335i is a GREAT car with an incredible driving experience. The G37s is also a great car for comfort and reliability - driving experience not as good. If the G37S is brand new it makes it a harder choice.

G37S is used with 31k miles also, for id say 3grand less. I wasn't speaking about the price of purchase per say, but the reliability issues and the thoughts you guys had on keeping a 335i for 5-6 years when its an 08 already.

$30k OTD with taxes, dealer fees, and dmv fees included. Some may say that's a bit high, but this car only had one previous owner who used it to commute to work and he kept it in showroom condition. I'm still in awe about how brand new it looks.

Lol I have an 08 335i, my wife has an 04 g35x, and we just picked up the new JX. I bought my 335i and have no long term concerns at this point.

Most of the "problems" that are associated have been resolved (HPFP) or are guaranteed parts by BMW (wastegates). If you take care of the car (regular maintenance), it'll give you lots of smiles. If you forget to chance the oil & don't actively maintain it, it'll punish your wallet.

I really like the VQ's engine note & that you can rev the hell out of it, but I'd take an N54/N55 over it any day

N54 powered 335's are NOT reliable (i can not stress this enough), dont listen to anything anybody says to contradict that. They are not long-termers, and there are thousands for sale across the US. They are not tuner cars contrary to what everybody thinks, you have to be on a first name basis with a BMW service adviser (and usually have grease him to get mods by during basic maintenance depending on where you go for service) n54 powered 335's to date are the single highest dealer assist buyback cars BMW ever had. You can not keep this car long term without turbo replacement, wastegate issues or multiple HPFP's....also be aware the first gen Idrives were crazy problematic and will most likely fail in years to come. I had a 08 g37s too, piece of shit and cheaply made bc of first gen body style change, forget either car. If you are using this car for commuting as well, consider something else. I would even say you are 100 x's better even with a 328 at this point. Weekend project car maybe, if you are willing to do that pick up a salvage tittle car. You also can not own a 335 that is not CPO or has an extended BMW warranty. BMW also jerks you with that in that the warranty end time is related to your cars in-service date and not when you actually buy the warranty.....of course you can pay 1200-1500 a year after all possible warrantys expire to cover this car, but it is clearly not worth it. At the time I purchased my 335, I sold my e46 M3 coupe and still today regret doing that....pick one of those up instead.

BTW price on your car is not great at all.....see waaaaaaay better deals all day long on carguru.com, shit even privately.....crazy for an 08, cpo 11 e90s are around 35k now. hope you didnt pick up the car yet.
Fml ... Lol, everyone else loves there 335i, and every OTHER everyone else is saying no they are not reliable whatsoever and are a handful of headaches .... Ahh

Lowkey's reply was certainly not low key....

So far, no issues with my new 335is but it is only 4 months old. If considering an older model, make sure it has had the HPFP recall done to it and make sure the 100,000 mile warranty for it is in effect. There may be other recalls to check on too.

BMWs may not be trouble free but no worse than most cars. A CPO or other extended warranty is a very good idea. One or two fixes over time pays for it.

When I spoke to my salesman, he did note that no Hpfp issues on this car has happened ... But he did specifically say the 10 year / 120k applies for it.

I guess another question I have is, If the vehicle I purchased has not had Hpfp issues, can I bring it in for the recall ? Or go with the saying If it ain't broke don't fix it ..

Of course you can bring it in for the recall. There's a recall on the injectors also. Fuel system issues have largely been resolved. Don't wait till it dies on you.

You should be fine in any event with the CPO warranty. It covers all engine issues you'd have. My car has had what seems like one of everything under CPO (plugs, 11 injectors, starter, VANOS solenoid, wastegate actuators, left muffler, etc...I could go on and on), and it's been really reliable lately (not so much the first couple years I owned it, while BMW was apparently still working out the kinks).

After a while, all the things that are going to go wrong will get sorted out. Of course, you'll eventually have to pay to replace suspension parts that aren't covered (I just did my tension struts, for example) and consumables. A year ago I would've said the N54 isn't worth keeping beyond the warranty but now I'm not so sure. Either way, you have about 2 years of CPO to find out how reliable it is.

Dont worry about the number of owners. 31k is low miles. Mine is an August build 2007 that just turned 70,000 miles and I maintain it like crazy - I've never been more confident about its reliability than I am today.

For what it's worth, the service records are FAR more important than number of owners. You want one that was maintained well by all its owners.
