IMO once they got serious about a single-turbo kit, they should've focused on the N55, but I understand that some of the BMW systems are getting in the way of high HP tuning. I also know some people have upgraded their ATs, specifically enrita who's also got an FBO 335i with RB Turbos + runs his car on the Nürburgring, so it's getting seriously abused as well. He went with a Level 10 trans upgraded, but he's also pushing upper 400-550 WHP/WTQ.

So for your normal 335 owner (even if they're FBO) there shouldn't be a lot of concern of over abusing/breaking the AT.

And yes, you are increasing wear on the engine. Anytime you increase power output you increase strain on mechanical parts. The parts most likely to be affected are plugs, coils, and injectors. However, those are all routine maintenance parts and should be replaced routinely anyway. Anything else is a crap shoot, really.

Buying new you get a grace period in which you can return the AP, if the power doesn't outweigh the risks then you can return it. I don't think you'll be returning it
Thanks for the advice!

The minute you increase the performance on the car, the wear and tear is going to increase. As long as you stay informed about the mechanical components, reading codes, and actively maintain the car you'll be fine. IMO, COBB is the best tune all around tune. It comes from a company that's made its reputation on quality aftermarket performance mods (most recently w/ their time-attack GTR), offers the simplicity of flashing the performance settings right through the OBD port (so you'll never have to open the engine), and you'll never have to pay for new/updated maps, even if you continue to mod your car.

Downsides to the COBB??? Maybe that that 1) there aren't any meth maps right now (but you can get around this by using a meth system that self-manages, like Snow Performance) and 2) you're going catch the mod bug instantly and become uncontrollably power hungry
Thanks for the advice!

Wow - is this normal? I reach 250 regularly in 85 degree weather with no rough driving on a stock vehicle.

I'm 240-250 all the time too. Also how come I don't see that many people with protunes? I'm going to try and get one done next week. When I search I only see EFI doing a few. No one else has any desire to get a protune?

I would get a protune if there was any shop near me that could do it.

If you do decide to get a protune, PLEASE get a baseline with the Cobb Stage 2+ off the shelf map that you currently run now, and the after results from your protune.

Just a shout out to the folks at Cobb...please help with the overboost condition several of us seem to be having. I'm not sure if it's related to the strange boost oscillation several of our ROMS have or not, but it needs to be addressed please.

That's what I plan on doing, so if everything works out ill post the before and after, never had a baseline though. I still think it should be interesting plus I'm pretty sure the shop has a dyno jet as well.

Don't worry until you start getting 265+, 250 is the center of the gauge because that's the normal operating temp.

Just for everyone, here's COBB's direct link to official protuners:
http://www.cobbtuning.com/Pro-Tuners-s/70681.htm

My only question is how does the protune work? I'm guessing it's basically like downloading a map off COBB's website, I'm guessing it gets saved to your AP so you can bounce around from Stage 0, Stage 2+FMIC OTS & your custom ProTune map. Any1 know for sure??

Edit: If I got RB's put in, then I'd get a ProTune. Until then, the OTS maps are 100% fine. Not trying to run my stock turbos into the ground since it's common knowledge that they aren't exactly "high boost friendly".

The boost oscillation fix and meth maps are currently in progress! Hopefully we will be posting some more updates soon.

I believe the RACE maps will be 91-93 plus meth and the E85 tune will be a seperate map. When i asked Rob about E85, this was his response: "E85 is something we are going to properly tune for in the future. It's on the list of todos."

COBB currently doesn't have an upgraded turbo map does it?? I know that right now on v3 Maps there's Stage 1, Stage 1+, Stage 2 + Stage 2+. The same with the v4 Maps, but they're still in the Beta stage.

Also, I'm assuming it wouldn't be wise to run 100 oct. on a non-race gas map (where are these if they're available?).

I don't think it hurts anything, but it probably doesn't do much (if anything) to improve performance. It might help to keep things looking better on the aggressive maps.
