I spoke with the BMW tech and he doesn't believe that it would connect to our idrive... To double check I told him to ask BMW NA and get back to me

In the mean time I will order the y cable for iphone 5 on ebayy and see what happens

Done, because BMW states it's a Charge and Sync cable. No mention of playing music.

i have finally bough the apple 30pin to lightning adapter for my bmw y cable as i was in the mall today, will try it soon with my iPhone5 & update over here.

I got one of those lighting equipped y-cables off amazon, it does audio via aux and charging via the lightning cable, it doesn't support syncing to the iDrive system on my bimmer so I wasn't able to select tracks with the steering wheel or see playlists. I think I'm giving up on trying to get iPhone 5 to sync with my iDrive, let me know if anyone finds a reasonable solution.

My friends nexus 5 connects to my idrive with the Original usb ...
I think I'm going to switch to android

u can browse through artist, albums etc, basically the same interface that an iPod use to give with the bmw Y cable(30 pin)

I purchased this cable from New Century BMW after reading that it will work with an E90 2011 335d with navigation.

It does power the iphone but it does not "work" with iDrive. No music through the speakers nor info or control over music through iDrive.

My current setup is a Y cable (minijack and USB) and an old 30 pin iPod. I was hoping to use my iphone instead for music.

Any ideas other than using an Apple 30 pin/Lightning adaptor connected to the old Y cable? Which works BTW (iphone shows up on iDrive, can navigate through playlists and songs, can play music apps through iDrive but must control through iPhone) , but is not the most elegant of solutions...

you need to have 6nf option from factory to pass usb from iphone5 via snap-in
