Weird noise when steering after trunk meth install
So I installed a trunk mount meth kit today and routed the meth line through the interior. I got the line in the engine bay by running the line past the grommet for the steering but now when I turn the steering wheel it's making noise. It seems like the steering shaft is rubbing up against the meth line and flicking it or something. Am I missing something here or is anyone else noticing this?

Hopefully you will reroute it outside the car before you burn it down.

I'll likely be keeping it through the interior as its all one long piece and hidden under trim so I don't see the line being compromised. If anything is going to catch fire it'll likely be in the engine bay (as almost all fires we have heard of) where a connection leaks and the meth comes in contact with something hot. That or under the car if the line gets compromised by debris hitting it and making contact with the exhaust. Trunk mounts in general are pretty safe as there is no flimsy windshield washer reservoir to leak of have a cap pop off. Either way I'm getting a fire extinguisher just in case.

Only problem I see running it inside the cabin is if the meth line ruptured meth will spill into the wiring harnass under the carpet and also the fumes are not too healthy to inhale. Also a ruptured line there will be no way of knowing for awhile as the carpet would soak it up. Either way best to have it under the body panels.

Haha very nice!
So, problem solved.. Robc1976 was correct; the steering knuckle was hitting the line. When I ran the line I put it through the grommet but on the bottom of the grommet so the angle of the steering caused it to rub. Ran the line at the top of the grommet and it clears the knuckle now. |
