Valve Cover Replacement (how common?) N52

Car: 07 328i 114k miles

How common is it for the crankcase ventilation valve to go bad on the N52? Had a shop tell me I need to replace my valve cover because the vent valve is built into the cover and not separate.

From the searches I've done I haven't see a whole lot of threads regarding replacing the valve cover. Seen plenty on replacing the valve cover gasket. I've also seen plenty regarding the eccentric shaft sensor, which I'm going to go ahead and change since the valve cover will be off but just want to make sure I'm understanding everything properly and curious as to who else has had to replace the valve cover on their N52's.

I just like to make sure and do plenty of research before I replace parts that might not be necessary but if it's something that is common then I don't mind replacing it even if it could be premature.

Quite a number of DIYs for this on youtube.

While you are in there, might as well change the eccentric shaft position sensor

Yeah, I did this last week during the Thanksgiving holidays. Not hard but yes, very time consuming.

Posted in this^^ thread with the videos I found. I watched the video 3-4 times while taking notes and it helped make the job go much more smoothly. I replaced the valve cover and ESS as well. It had a little bit of oil in it when I checked so if it wasn't bad when I changed it, then it wasn't going to be much longer before it did go bad so I'm glad I changed it while I already had the valve cover off.
