Broken wastegate
I am at a loss for words. Disgusted more than anything. 6 months ago BMW replaced my turbos after replacing them in October. The wastegate rattle continued and i got so fed up i just dealt with it. Well the other day i could only make 5psi and then limp. I checked my rear actuator to make sure the rod didnt pop off again and it was fine. I checked to see if it was stuck, nope working fine. I knew it had to be wastegate because i could hear my exhaust was louder. So i drop it off and have it looked at. I got the call this morning that my front wastegate was broke where the rod slides onto the wastegate. He also pointed out some other issues.
This dealer stripped bolts that attached the oil return line so i was leaking oil. Not much but not right. The intake pipe for the rear turbo was not on the turbo. The front intake pipe was missing the bolts that attached and secured it. I honestly think the guy that worked on my car is an idiot or did it on purpose. C clip was missing from rear turbo which cause the wastegate rod to pop off. Zip ties holding the power steering lines. I have already complained in the past to this dealer and am just tired of their BS. Anyhow, keep an eye out for breaking wastegate. Here is a video and pics to come in the next few days. South Bay was the Dealer. I HIGHLY Suggest staying away from them. I had problems with them with both my M5 and my M3 but since its so close i went back which was a big mistake. I understand some have had good work there done but honestly, how often do you go back and check the work they did.

Here are pics of what broke on the front wastegate.
Its suppose to look like this. This is how it looks. While its apart i decided to wrap my turbo outlet pipe with anti heat wrap. Looks bling tastic but its suppose to really help. If it does or doesnt, who cares, but as long as im in there, i figured i would wrap it. I also grabbed a GT30R turbo and checked fitment... Lets just say, if someone could tune it, id have a manifold made in a week. There is plenty of room for a GT30, heck i think a GT35 would fit too! Also, does anyone have the number to BMWNA so i can file a complaint? |

I'm really surprised that piece broke off.
The only thing that I'm thinking of is the rod couldn't move freely so that piece snapped. No bueno!

Sorry to hear about this. I wonder if there was an alignment issue originally and it added extra load on the pin.
But on another note, what method did you use to pull the turbo? |
