Does TMC work with iDrive in Toronto?

Hey Folks,

I was wondering if the iDrive (2nd Gen) can get TMC in Toronto, Ontario? I've read that TMC is available via RDS, but I haven't managed to receive any traffic updates, neither via RDS, nor NAV

Thx

Nope, unfortunately we don't get the traffic service up here.

Apparently there is TMC service in the GTA...for example, I know that with TomTom, you can buy a RDS-TMC Traffic Receiver and hook it up to the GPS unit and you will get traffic updates via FM radio signal broadcast throughout the GTA...can it be that the Canadian iDrive version isn't packed with the TMC receiver as opposed to the US?...seems odd, as the iDrive does have the RDS and that is how the TMC is being broadcast..

Sorry didn't mean traffic service wasn't available at all in Canada, I think our idrive doesn't have the receiver for traffic info.

I think it might be because in US BMW partnered w/Clear Channel's Total Traffic Network, while in Canada there is no partnership...guess we'll have to use GPS portable units (eg. TomTom, Gamin) to get TMC

No, we don't actually have the physical hardware in the car to do this, nor is it enabled in the software.

Based on your theory if you took a canadian car to the states traffic would start working - It does not.

Sorry going to revive an old thread.

Anyone today in 2014, get RDS-TMC traffic working on their e90 cars? with CIC Nav?

Here is thread that suggests that it works in the US, but not in Canada after enabling a few sw options.
