Sorry haven't been in this section in a while. Had my walnut blasting done under warranty and maintenance program at north Scottsdale. Car was shuddering under load during acceleration. They actually replace coils, plugs, injectors, hpfp, and lpfp. I got lucky I guess. Bunch of freebies.

I emailed AZ Bimmer (http://www.azbimmermotorwerks.com/index.html) who are in mesa, and asked for an estimate. For a chemical clean (decarb chemical and soft brush) they said $450 out the door.

I'm torn between something like that and just purchasing the required equipment and doing it myself. An air compressor is a useful thing anyway. I'm not a mechanic but I am mechanically inclined. Most of my experience working on cars is Subaru based though. What to do, what to do....

Interesting...I contacted them few months back and didn't hear they'd do that. I've taken my intake manifold off..but wasn't keen on scrubbing each valve and ensuring they were TDC. There was one Shop..forgot the name...they said they had done it on mini coopers..never on a beemer (guy actually told me I don't need walnut blasting...thought He was more experienced with the n54) but said he would for 350-400ish.. sounds like a deal...but I thought to walnut blast you'd need the appropriate adapter to attach to our valves?

Is carbon build up like this only on turbo models of cars or do the NA cars have the same problem?

It can't be that hard to get the appropriate adapter. If you have taken your intake manifold off, then you know exactly what size the adapter should be.

I'm not sure I'd trust someone who says the N54's don't need walnut blasting. I'm getting towards 80k and need to make it a priority. Maybe in a couple weeks. If you want to either figure this out with me, or try to get a discount somewhere if we both go in, let me know.

Yes I'm interested. PM me if you have any local shops you'd like to call...
