Ignition set - Coils & Spark Plugs

Anyone local here in the Bay Area know where I can pick up a brand new set of coils & spark plugs for a good price?

My car:
  • 2008 335i
  • 33,xxx miles
  • N54
My car has been having a rough start and instead of just changing 1 coil/plug, I might as well replace the whole set.

BMW did it for me once because I didn't know what the issue was and charged me $300+ for 1 coil & labor!

Thanks guys.

All I've found so far for being affordable is ECS Tuning:

Your best bet is buying them online for $50-70, but you can buy them off BMW for $95 each unless somehow you can get a 20% discount at a BMW Dealership then it would be around $70 each ignition coil.

Install it yourself but if your afraid an independent shop can do it for you.

Do you have check engine light on too?
Autozone has it. It is easy to replace. Do it your own. Replaced mines. Took me 2 hours for all 6 plugs/ignition coils.
Double platinum spark plugs 12.99 a piece and coils are almost 60 bucks.
Watch the video on youtube. Easy to do.
After replacing the coils/plugs, you need to drive a certain miles, it will reset on its own.

If your talking about buying ignition coils at Autozone I wouldn't recommend it since they only have the Duralast brand which is a rebranded Bremi that are known to fail.

Don't cheap out on engine parts for your BMW because that's the heart and soul of the car.

Wow thanks so much for the replies guys. Really appreciate it. I was looking at duralast but I don't want to deal with the hassle and waste of hard-earned money later on.

I ended up purchasing the ignition & coil set from ecs tuning along with the socket tool for installation. Came out to roughly $360 total.
The best deal the parts guy at BMW could give me was $580. Definitely not worth it...

I've been looking at the YouTube and e90post forums to get a clear idea for installation.

When my motor first misfired back in January, my S.A. told me that only spark plugs are covered under the cpo.
I find it hilarious as the spark plugs are only a fraction of the price compared to the coils...

Moreover, the only way to cover it under warranty would be after BMW does diagnostics on your car. If the test shows that the spark plugs are the culprit, then they will replace it/them.
Nevertheless, you will have to pay a fee just for the diagnostics ($80-$120).
I.e. in my case, I spent on the diagnostics test (even though I used my Cobb to diagnos problem), the coil, and "labor". That came out to roughly $400 to replace one coil!

Hence, the reason I have posted up this thread...lol.
Literally, my loss is your gain.

I went in for a diagnostic and my dealer charged me 200!! I thought that was standard but apparently I got ripped off, then they didn't do anything since I had downpipes and told me they couldn't "bypass" the code otherwise cooperate will flag my car. Anyways, I can't take it back if it was covered and losing another 200. Sounds like its better if I do it myself

That's step by step. Just make sure to check the space of the spark plugs, 0.40 gap.

Thanks dude!

I really appreciate the information! Can't wait for the order to get in. Hate seeing that Service Engine Light on, and that small rough start in the morning...
