Hopefully you error'd a little on the small side and drivability remains intact.
Transitional response is terrific if revs are above 3500rpm. Easily as good as upgraded twins. Above 4500rpm, i'd say it is even better. But what really surprised me is how fast boost builds post shift (5000+RPM). Noticeably better than either stock or upgraded twins. I suspect this has a bit to do with not needing to breathe through those crummy flat inlet pipes anymore.

Below 3000rpm, however, there is no comparison between twins and this turbo. If you are used to that low end grunt, a big single is going to be disappointing. But above 3000rpm, the engine feels and sounds much more effortless and smoother with the single that I think many people will be happy to change their driving habits.

Yes, the turbo is mounted high enough to avoid having to use an oil pump. So needless to say, no check valve either. We are using a simple gravity drain

Congrats, Shiv. Sounds smooth and powerful. I thought I'd hear the anti-surge housing more though. In my experience, they've been louder than normal housings.

You know you have a customer up my way when this kit hits production....

Are you planning on offering various turbo options (on the same frame) depending on spool/power "needs?"

Great work Shiv!!!! Awesome to see it up and running! IDK which turbo you are running or which housing, but have you considered adding a quick spool valve to help with spool time?

Sounds good Brady. I haven't even heard any surge yet. The turbo itself is a lot quieter than the ASR/RB turbos I've tested. The only thing that is louder is the blow off valve discharge now that it is dumping to atmosphere.

Yes indeed. There will be at least 2 options to suits different user needs/preferences.

Haven't considered a quick spool valve. I've never used one in the past but it's worth looking into.

LOL @ tail pipe sniffer! When are you going to learn to put a real wide band on the downpipe where it is supposed to be?

Car sounds great though! Congrats!

When you are working on a few different project cars at the same time, you learn the value of having a portable lambda meter than it easy to move between cars. Also, there are already 2 widebands pre-turbo. The tailpipe sniffer was there to test for back pressure induced misreadings. In a cat-less system, at reasonable engine speeds, there is no fresh air contamination when running a good tailpipe mounted sniffer.

Sounds as expected with the drivability explanation. As for your turbo sizing, would you say you error'd on the small, medium, or larger sizing? I know that's vague, but you know what I mean I think.

Once we are running this baby at 20psi (with meth), i'll have a much better idea of if we over or under-sized this particular turbo for my application. Because just bumping boost from 11psi to 16psi made a huge difference in terms of subjective response.

Shiv
I know what you mean. We just did some testing with a PT6766 on the supra and we set target boost to 17psi and the car made decent power, but when we turned it up to 25psi at the same spot we good power at 17psi we had crazy power at 25psi

26psi on the Supra with the 6766 and big cams was 750whp. Our pump gas tune at 20psi was well into the 600's

Thanks!

Michael
